Now being the proud owner of my first DSLR, i was wondering what tips for looking after it people have?

I read about checking you dont get dust on the filter - what do you do if that happens?

Also, would a glasses cleaning cloth be good for keeping the lens clean?

any other tips?

Dust on the sensor when the lens isn't attached is the big thing - very difficult to clean yourself.

Always point the camera down when you changes lenses and don't keep them off for long.

I guess white spots on pictures is the telltale sign of dust on the sensor?

Not nessicaraly white, usualy black, blotches.

Most obvious when donig landscapes on the sky when you've stoped down a lot.

To see em in all their glory shoot a white wall or piece of paper at f22 or more.

As said , carefull & quick changing lenses but dust bunnies happen whatever.

Microfiber cloth or lens pen for cleaning lenses. Try not to touch anything in the light path otherwise.
