Stick On Number Plates

Hi All,

I've seen quite a few cars with the sticker style thin vinyl number plates on the front as opposed to the normal plastic ones and wondered where you guys got them from.

Time to start lining some up as the car is in for the dreaded SVA test today so will (hopefully) be on the road within a couple of weeks.

After 3 years of building this thing I can't believe how nervous I am about the SVA test !
I've been pacing up and down like an expectant father all morning, can't wait to get some news from the midwife, er, I mean Factory .....

But you obviously won't be using it on the road will you as they are Illegal now, the Nice shiny normal plate you bought must go on the front, and only use the sticky version as a show plate... Hint Hint

Yo Jezza, may be worth covering your arse in view of your pending SVA: I too have a stick on front plate but just in case a possible SVA problem may rear its head on the 'requirement of a perspex' plate issue on the day ( really does depend on how Germanic ( or should that be Arian? ) your Hitler for the day turns out to be ) you could do no worse than take a perspex plate along with some double sided tape and just plonk it over the top should it be required. I cut my vinyl down by 10mm H & W to make things look a little more authentic should the need arise, but it didn't. In any case it is not a waste as I will affix said plate at MOT time

FOOTNOTE: No offence meant to our European cousins you understand, just a harmless phrase of terminology, I have just bought a BMW I recently undertook some work for a fellow from that very part of the world, what a very nice man he was too

The good news is that the car has passed the test so all is well regardless of my testers country of origin


Just the small matter of registering it now and I can hit the road, oh boy is it gonna be a long 2 weeks ............

Why two weeks?
Get the factory to do it for you. Will take a couple of days.

Hi Steve,

The factory is indeed doing my registration for me.
2 Weeks is what Richard at the factory has told me it will take for the DVLA to process the forms etc.

My forms etc are going off today so I am hoping you are right and it all comes through much quicker !

The system may have changed. When mine went through SVA someone from the factory took the papers to the DVLA office the next day and came away with everything in hand to get on the road i.e. Reg number & tax disc. The V5 turned up later in the post.

Richard did say he was going to take the paperwork up to the DVLA office so that bit still stands as far as I am aware.

He also said that now the DVLA insist on inspecting most cars before releasing the paperwork.
The 2 weeks is normally what it takes to get your inspection date and get the man down to look at the car.
Obviously this is essential what with the SVA man having just ...er... inspected the car.


Anyway, once that's done you then finally get your registration docs etc.
