Yeap, gonna be a pikey and go on the 17th as it is late opening and the tickets after 4 are a fiver each.

Does anyone else feel like a fraud walking on the expensive boats and having a look round ?

Thats not pikey, that being careful with your money, I would but were coming from Leeds, so really would be silly just to go from 4 'o' clock.

Why do you feel a fraud, just don't dress like a pikey (I am not saying you do, or would) No harm in having a butchers. Quite looking forward to seeing the Sunseeker Stand, and in particular the Portofino 53 HT

The Portofino 53 HT is a lovely looking boat, but I prefer the Predator 108 especially in black. Yes i know there is a considerable price difference.

Best boat Sunseeker do is the 82 http://www.sunseeker.com/index.asp.
Though the Mrs and Me think the 105 is not to bad if somebody else is paying .Or better still getting payed !

Hear is one I spotted trawling My Pictures , obviously bored with 4000 hp and a long trip and in need of a real boat and some excitement.

Ferretti 88 somewhere in the Med !!

Yep - completely dead. Went on the Saturday and there were more staff than punters. They did a buy one get one free on tickets in the end if I remember correctly.

Cheers,

Steve.

The wallet can stretch surely if you are going to Charter her out, that is one of my biggest thoughts at the moment, offsetting the actual finance costs with income generated through charter. Do people have any more info.. I think my favorite blend of size, power, looks and "affordability" is a Predator 62, second hand.

Surely the maths works?

Any ideas ladies and gents?

Be careful in what you buy , you must not think in the lines of I'll buy a boat and charter it ''.
The boat must work and a predator does not . Much better with fly bridge , you need to think about crew quarters ,as these boats are no bare boat tool.
Cabins are much better if all of a equal size and layout , as when its couples they don't want to have to chose who is having the poor person one .
All these factor add up to how much the boat is worth per week and how many bookings you are going to get .
If you buy bad you may as well just keep it tied to the dock as it will work out cheaper.
I good charter boats tend to end up a compromise between what the owner likes and what works for charter .
If you need a few pointers on what tends to work and costs etc , drop me a line via my e-mail address . info@toplineyachtcharters.com.
I am around until Monday then off to sort a refit in the Med .

RumRunner,

Thanks for the pointers, I like the look of the Portofino 47 HT that was tested in Motorboat and yachting this month, reasonable money, and from what I can gather from limited research see that they can charter from about 8,000 euro a week, to 10,000 euros high season. Is this feasable ?

I am to the show on Sunday, and will hopefully learn a little more then. Down to Costa after that. May see how I feel after the show.

BlueSatin,

I do like Porkers, very muchley, but un fortunately you have the wrong one, I know who you mean. Check out my profile.

He is the young gent who has some rather nice Ruf's is he not ?

p.s, went to the show, fabulous, just did not take too many pictures, was awestruck with the Princess Stand, and the Sunseeker one. Predator in Black and silver, gorgeous.

Well worth the visit.

Any Photos ?

I'd have a look at a superhawk 48/50 or if you can stretch look at the 72 predator. Both will push above 40 knots which means comfortable cruising at 35 knots +. This makes cruising more flexible and the 40knts+ is for the adrenalin seeker. Problem with the 53HT and 62 is that you would struggle to cruise much above 30knts especially with some growth on the bottom. The SS48/50 should have decent charter potential and as on stern legs is fairly economical. All in my opinion.

I went yesterday. Have to admit to feeling like a bit of a fraud snooping around the £1m+ boats (currently out of my price range, but I'm working on it). I'm sure they can suss you instantly if you're a likely buyer or not, but then again, they don't know if your numbers haven't just come up on the Euro lottery. Also interesting how some companies dissuade casual viewing with ropes and barriers and having to give details (Pershing, Fairline) and be escorted and some, like Sunseeker (surprisingly), appreciate that people want to have a daydream and let them have a good poke around without much hindrance.

Enjoyed the show, I like the Excel centre as a venue but haven't been to a boat show since my dad used to take me to Earls Court every year as a kid. I know they have dockside outside, but in the cold and rain it wasn't the same as being warm inside Earls Court with the flooded bit in the middle and some fake south of France fishing village built around the edge. Went to MPH04 last year and thought Earls Court looked a bit of a dump so maybe just rose tinted nostalgia going on there.

Can't make my mind up between a Sunseeker gin palace and an Oyster 65... think I better go and buy a Euro lottery ticket and have both smile.
