It Would Seem that Ginetta have stopped making Road Cars
Discussion
As many of you know I have been looking for a G4 long cockpit for a while. I have my sights on one at the moment which is a short cockpit and hopefully I will fit into it and my hunt for a car is over.
But if that doesn't work out, I have just put a call into Ginetta for a road car with a coupe back on ether a G20/G27 style for touring with.
After a bit of a difficult conversation I was told that they aren't building road cars any more and are just building race cars.
Looks like the end of another Great British Road Car manufacture if they are only going to be doing Race cars.
I understand the the G50 will be sold as a road car at some point, but you can't order one at the moment and it is going to be more expensive than any other car they have ever built.

Manufacturing road cars these days is very expensive, and for proof of that, just look at what happened to TVR, and Marcos. But if that doesn't work out, I have just put a call into Ginetta for a road car with a coupe back on ether a G20/G27 style for touring with.

If you want to survive in this niche market, it makes sense, for a small company to build race cars, add a decent price premium, and leave road cars to other manufacturers.
In all honesty, the G50 as is, makes more sense as a racer than road car, IMHO.
They have a very good racing reputation, and can sell that to people, interested in racing a G50.
In response to Jay, with TVR and others gone I would agree there must be a fair market out there to grab - I note his number of '300'.
But imo it isn't for a 50 or 60 grand car (ie like the Farbio - which apparently we are led to believe has loads of firm orders). We shall see. Heard it all before. Look at the Jensen, etc, few if any of these ventures succeed - except in the hype they receive.
Ginetta's set up does now look extremely promising, but any successful 'road' car needs to be priced right. Get the price right and they may not keep up with the orders. It's been done before, will it be done again? The previous best seller, the G15, may have been a long time ago, but it was priced absolutely spot on where nothing else could touch it.
I remember Bob Walklett saying he was approached at the Motor Show launch of the G15 by friend Jem Marsh of Marcos (who apparently had looked at the Imp power unit as well) and he said to Bob, 'I don't know how you do it for the price. You can keep it!' to which Bob replied: 'We intend to Jem, we intend to!'
Today's market for road cars is even more difficult IF you want to sell in 'numbers'. £25 grand - a used Porsche Boxster S or a Ginetta? Close imo.
£40 grand - a new Porsche S or a Ginetta? No contest, German wins.

Snapper. Just realised you have found a short cockpit G4 (a Dare one, I take it?)
I have been looking hard since the white/black stripe open car disappeared and haven't seen any - (worth looking at that is).
I had no trouble fitting in/driving long distances in the DARE demo G4 coupe in 1998 (at 6ft1) so if you don't fit this one, let me know where it is? I scan all the ads and haven't spotted any now for months.
If I don't find one, then the G11 Coupe will have to be put into action (not before time some would say!)

I am looking over the G4 shortly and I will know soon if it is a car for me to consider given my hight, if it isn't I will pass the details on to you. But I do have a good feeling.
I have also found another car as well which I will also look over before making a final decision.
I have spent weeks hunting for people who own G4's and making contact with them.
Like most things in life it has not been a straight forward process.
But fingers crossed.

A lot depends on your leg length - if you have a short body and long legs, you might get in, but will struggle to get out again..... Foolish Dave said:

I'd tried to contact them a few times about 50th Anniversary Swag and got not so much as a form letter response from them. Sad really, and a bit disconcerting as a first time owner. The G20 I bought here in the states this past fall was not exactly as advertised and I will be tinkering with it a lot this spring to make it truly street worthy. I was looking forward to having a home base to be able to keep contact with... Fingers crossed. I've heard there may be less than 25 of these cars on this side of the pond.
I'll start another thread, but does anyone else no about or have leads on Anniversary stuff? I'm also looking for "G" wheel center caps.
Thanks!

Not sure where you will go for your wheel centers if Ginetta can't help. but you might have a bit more luck with advice at the Ginetta owners club if no one here can help.

Ginetta wheel centre stickers can be bought on Ebay - they may fit the caps you have, or you could get some made to fit.http://www.ginetta.org/
