Goodbye Brera, hello GT.....
Discussion
After a miserable 18 months in the Brera, i managed to swap it over the holidays for a GT Q2
What a refreshing car to drive, it's nimble, comfortable & economic. Low down, it's more spritely than the Brera ever was ( Brera was a V6 ), & already i'm enjoying the benefits of 40mpg, as apposed to 18.4mpg
The Brera was surefooted around corners, but this Q2 is nearly up there with it.
With the Q2 i've got a decent driving position, proper supportive seats, proper doors that hold open, & wonderful pointy steering! It very much takes me back to my old 155 TS, a car that could feel like a go-kart if you were in the mood.
In terms of build quality, the Brera was more solid & better screwed together, but the gulf isn't huge. I still had problems with build issues with the Brera after 18 months that the dealers seemed to get nowhere near to sorting!
Sorry Alfa, that Brera was easily the worst car i've ever owned, your re-think can't come soon enough, just make sure you get it right this time!!!!

I covered 8,000 in my 2.4 JTD Brera and didn't suffer a single fault. I thought it handled really well if a little heavy, and averaged 42mpg. I wasn't struck on the front seats but that's pretty much it. I was even able to get the baby seat in which pleased the Missus. I only let it go because the Missus wanted to change the Punto to another 156 and I fancied another Grale.
I'll have another once funds allow.

Just done my first thousand miles in the GT, it just gets better & better
It's averaging 40mpg, & drives beautifully, it's got all the verve & tactillity of proper sports car.
It looks great, just about as good looking as the Brera was, & it turns as many heads.
All in all, a great machine.
I'll be venturing out on track later in the year & i'll report back

We are getting loads of people that have bought Breras that want to come out of them into a GT due to the fact the Brera is really hard to live with, no real back seat and a very high rear boot lip.
We sell loads of GT’s compared to the Breras. I think the Brera is a great car but not for the UK, it would be a great car if Alfa Romeo were back selling car in America, I can just imagine a Brera or Spider cruising down Hollywood Boulevard.

Apart from the lack of driving zest, the interior of the Brera is all wrong.
You never feel as though you're sat in it, you're rather sat on it, & sat too high as well

The seats are the worst i've ever had in a car, i still can't believe how they could get it so wrong

I know of Alfa dealers that reported that sales of the GT went markedly upwards following the launch of the Brera, as punters came into showrooms to look at the newly launched car, & came out with a GT.
Have to say though, the GT Q2 is a revelation, all the real world ooomph of the V6, & 40mpg, it makes so much sense, only thing i occaisionally miss is the noise, but then the bose is usually cranked up so high, i would'nt really care

Hi.
I have had a GT before and then moved on to a 630i sports for the auto box and added luxury (up and down the m6 every day!). I still can't shake the love of Alfas off though and have been thinking of the diesel Brera for the economy. Will be a slight pain to go back to manual when I am "parked" on the m6 but the beemer is a thirsty beast.
This thread makes we wonder tho whether the Brera is such a good idea, will have to try one myself of course.

IMHO the GT is the nicest recent alfa. I was thinking of a GT3.2 last year got a 147 GTA in the end which is great as well, but not as nice looking as the GT.
Test drove a brera as well at the time and found it felt a bit "flat" if you know what I mean. Would go for a GT if I was buying another alfa.
