Watch out! No fuel!
Discussion
Have I missed something...? This afternoon the following petrol stations:
Shell Apex Corner A1
Shell Sterling Corner A1
BP Borehamwood
Shell Borehamwood
Esso A41 junction of A 5183
BP A 5183 / A414/ M10 roundabout
Were ALL our of all grades of petrol and diesel! Only open for the shop with some thoughtful enough to display A boards at the entrances displaying signs "Out of Fuel"
I was so low having visited all these that I had to carefully return home. Yes, Tesco has some fuel but NOT the 98 RON (V-Power/Ultimate) that we need. Does anyone know what's going on or is this another example of of major companies being unable to cope with slightly increased demand? Unreal!!!!

Could it be the fuel delivery drivers are supporting the fuel price protests, but the scumbags in gubbernmint don't want any visible support appearing?
Maybe the depot managers have decided to ban Christmas overtime?
Could be a genuine supply problem.
Could it be Sarge...
...Rosemary, the telephone operator...
...Penry, the Mild Mannered Janitor...
Who knows?
Pain in the arse though!

We experienced this near T. Wells before Christmas - they told us there wasnt a BP garage in the south east that day with any fuel as they had reached their allocation!
Dont know if its true of not - but I wouldnt be suprised if someone up high has pulled the plug to let the protesters feel what it would be like if we run low again.

Not sure if I dreamt this but wasn't there a problem at one of the refineries in Essex recently, some sort of explosion I think which did some damage. Think it was shut down, not sure if it is back to normal yet.
The thing that blew was one of the Napthalene tanks, caused by a safety system not being maintained properly.Nothing to do with petrol production, which was not affected.
The 'shortage' is probably just a knock-on effect (read panic buying!) from the failed pre-xmas demos and the threatened post-xmas ones...
Asked a tanker driver delivering to the Shell on the A1 at Sterling corner whether he was delivering V-Power. 'No' was the answer... 'that is delivered from somewhere else completely and not with the regular unleaded or diesel.' Hmmm..wonder who they buy it in from or whether they just produce it at a separate facility.

My Griff is up at V8 Developments having an Emerald ECU put in, plus other tuning work.
Part of the job is multiple maps in the ECU.
The default map will be regular 95 octane. To protect the engine, each time the engine starts, it will select this map. If I have only high octane in the tank, I just press the button and it will swap to the high octane map.
The difference is principly ignition timing. With seperate maps this can be got spot on. With the other work I should have more power on 95 octane than a standard 500 on 99 octane. On 99 octane we are expecting well over 300bhp, with more to come when I do some other stuff.
I spoke to the technical advisors at Omex before I chose Emerald. Omex and similar, can have a switch that modifies the ignition timing by a fixed number of degrees from that held in the site for those revs. Obviously this isn't ideal. For example if the switch retards 4 degrees, it will always do so. As you must have it retarded enough for the worst map site, you will loose power on the rest. At least it allows safe emergency use of 95 octane to get you home.
I suspect that if this proves successful it will become a common trick to allow emergency or normal use of 95 octane and save the 99 octane for special use.
