Coffee Done Proper Like
Discussion
I was rummaging in my cupboard-o'-shite the other day and there, next to the food processor and the smoothie maker, was my old Bialetti Moka Express coffee pot.
What a stunning cuppa this thing makes. And it's quicker than the filter machine.
And it only cost me a tenner. And it doesn't have anything other than a rubber seal to fail/break/crack.

you just can't beat a proper cup of coffee. Instant stuff is all very convenient but I'd rather have the proper stuff any day.
Brought some ground coffee back last month when I was in Mexico......really must get round to drinking it before it goes past its best.
If you're not going to have the opportunity to drink it soon, freeze it. That'll stop it getting stale.Brought some ground coffee back last month when I was in Mexico......really must get round to drinking it before it goes past its best.
if I didn't have to get out of bed so damn early in order to get back home, feed the horse and be at work by 8am I'd love to drink it more, and I don't tend to drink coffee after midday as it keeps me awake at night.
only one more morning of silly o'clock hours then a break for christmas, so might just work my way through it

Sorry, it's already past its best. Ground coffee goes stale very, very quickly (it's pretty much dead after 48 hrs)Brought some ground coffee back last month when I was in Mexico......really must get round to drinking it before it goes past its best.
The best way to improve your coffee is to buy it in beans and grind it just before using.

what about ground coffee in the foil sealed packets then? I can understand that once you have opened the packet it will go off quickly but surely it must be ok whilst still sealed.
It'll be fine. Fresh-ground coffee doesn't last at all but the vacuum-packed stuff lasts a bit longer.Green beans will last around a year or so before deteoriating.
Roasted beans will be at there best up to two weeks after roasting.
Ground beans will start to go off immediately should be drunk as soon as possible after grinding.
I get my coffee from here and it is delivered immediately after roasting and tastes far better than anything you'll get in your local supermarket, or probably local coffee shop too, awesome stuff!.

I get my beans from Monmouth Coffee I believe they are roasted and sent within a short space of time. Nothing like the beans bought in the supermarket or whittards so much more flavour.
It's always interesting to visit the store in Covent Garden or Borough Market, met one of the owners once and we spent around 30mins going through different regions and tasting the coffee before I got my latest fix of beans.

They help to an extent (the ones with the one-way CO2 valves are the best of a bad lot), but you will still notice a night/day difference between any pre-ground coffee and freshly ground beans. There's probably a small roaster near where you live - support them and reap the rewards!
(Incidently, the city I live in has a population of 300,000 and around 9-10 independent roasters. We take our coffee seriously here...)
