With the rapidly approaching arrival of my first-born, I've just got myself a camcorder. I always told myself I would when we knew our bundle of joy was on the way, I just didn't expect it to take over 6 years! Surprisingly, the technology has changed somewhat from when I first started looking biggrin

The Panasonic SD1 records on to SD cards in AVCHD format. That's around 80 minutes of 1920x1080i video with 5.1 sound on a 8Gb card.

It only arrived last night, but I'm already impressed with the results - and I haven't got round to reading the manual yet. I'm a Macintosh user, so expect things to be easy, but this was so easy even I'm amazed.

1. record some footage
2. plug camera into computer via USB
3. iMovie 08 imports material
4. drag stuff into the order I want
5. put some titles at the beginning
6. add some music
7. add some scene transitions
8. save in Quicktime (for iPhone) format smile

I've never used iMovie either, but it all seems fairly obvious.

I know we don't discuss camcorders here much, but thought this ramble might be of interest to some of you.

The SD1 has just been replaced by the SD5, and because of this QVC (I know, I KNOW) are selling remaining stock at a massively reduced price - £200 less than Amazon and around £200 less than the replacement model (keeping in mind the SD1 comes with a 4Gb card and the replacement doesn't).

A bargin if you're in the market for a HiDef camcorder. thumbup

Considering one of these because they are a bit of a bargain now, are you still pleased with it?

You can also just plug SD card into Playstation 3 with USB attachment and play direct from card in full HD. Images have excellent colour and contrast and if you don't want to edit then no more need be done.

For sale in my local Comet for 284.99, but can't decide if I should buy it or pay the extra 100 or so full the full HD SD9
