Yeah search reveals all sorts of answers BUT if the price is right (22k at the moment) for a 22k mile car with warranty & a PX for the scoob...

And if so where can i get one fitted in Essex.

If your not going to track it then why not. Does it have an LSD. Because if it doesn't then one day you may have to have the engine out to fix that, at that point you can get the TDS fitted.

Although there is a way now to do the dif without taking the engine out. Wish I'd have known that could ok saved me over a grand

My M12 has covered 50K without LSD or track day sump and is still in one piece.

However, i don't track it and i don't light up the rear wheels....

I got this reply...

The car has had a recent repair to the ecu, a new
gearbox with the upgraded atb limited slip
differential (not standard on the 2.5), and a clutch
at the same time. I'am not sure which ecu the car has,
all i can tell you is that the car idles and runs
well, and starts from hot and cold with no problems,
and would be covered under warranty if there were any
issues.
The car has the standard sump

Hence why I said "May".

Some have gone and some haven't.

If I was buying now, I would def want LSD.

If I was buying now and looking at a 2.5 I would want the LSD fitted as the cost is a lot. But as I said if it was changed with the cutting method it may not be so bad.

if it helps; I paid around £1k to have the sump fitted by Noble Motorsport up north, they went in through the bottom!

Their opinion, and this sounds reasonable, is that there aren't too many of the sumps around so if you're wanting to track it (who wouldn't!) maybe worth ringing around for quotes/availability first - I'm sure they'd be happy to hold a sump for you for nominal deposit (NM certainly were - couldn't fault them!)

If it has had an ECU repair then its probably the original type that do go wrong. Mine hadn't been changed and it got to the point that it was running to rich for MOT (always started fine).

I now have an after market one. Again its not cheap to change but it is probably going to be fine for along time before you need to think about that.

Still got my original ECU also.

For road stuff, I would honestly say that the ECU is the only essential.
I haven't had any experience with repaired ones. I assume that means they repaired the Marelli.
Everything else is just "nice" ! Track sump VERY important for track.

Bondy's right, now you can do gearboxes/clutches/etc without taking the engine out, the whole thing is much easier yes

Be aware though, if you want to go to 6 speed, there's a lot more work required !

You are not kidding. I think mine was the first 2.5 to have the LSD/6spd box fitted and although it cost a fair bit of money I think it was worth it, despite the reduction in my masculinity as only REAL men have 5spd gearbox's and open diffs :-)

If i get to see it this week where is the ECU located? Will have a look which one it is...

Initially its NOT going to be tracked. BUT there is always the chance as i have a rover coupe turbo that will be used for track only..It will probably only do minimal mileage too frown as just never seem to have time. The spec'C' did 2040 miles between MOT's. In that was a trip to WRC germany & wales.. eek
Also dont mind getting my own hands dirty so could possibly do a few bits myself. Altho maybe the sump a little OTT.. wink

It is infront of the drivers rear wheel behine the lining so you will not be able to see it without taking the lining out.

If it has been repaired I would be 85% sure it the old style orginal ECU. I would say it will be fine but maybe an issue if later you want to do some upgrades (Which will defo be the case).

Maybe find out who repaired it (Possible Ray at west tuning) and ask if it is now mapable?

i think the marrelli ecu is very limited for mapping .i have a 2.5 with this ecu and have found no one will touch it apart from ray at west tuning.01264773839.To fit a omex ecu or mbe will cost minimum 2.5k unless anyone else is doing it cheaper .please gadgerooniesmile
