How many MPG does your diesel actually return?

The missus needs an oil-burner for her commute; I'm wondering about the discrepancies between quoted and real-world MPG. How many MPG does your oil-burner get in different circumstances?

combi 1.9 van 40-45mpg used hard for work

used to have a Tdi disco tweaked pump/turbo & large intercooler, plus lots of extra weight in offroad gear did around 45mpg at 70-75mph.

My Saab 95 estate TiD 2.2 about 30-35. For a diesel it's crap (intermittent warning lights a known issue on these damn engines), noisy, and thirsty. Current 1.9's are supposed to be OK mind.

Driven 90% around town at the moment, averages 40mpg all day long, best i have had was 53mpg on a motorway and worst was 30mpg, that was from a day out in wales, the roads were perfect

My driving consists of a mixture of everything and I'm getting 45-50mpg from each full tank.

Car is a B6 Passat 2.0TDI-140.
