Please see the below message from a colleague of mine. I suspect it's gone rapidly overseas, but nonetheless, if it comes to notice...

Between the 26th and 27th of November 2007 a silver Daimler SP250 vintage car, index ESK 579 was stolen from a garage at the rear of Upper Cranbeach Road, Henleaze.

The car is very distinctive (picture of a similar car attached).

Could officers keep an eye out for the stolen car and keep it in mind if searching any garages/lock ups. The victim is very distressed at having this car taken and it would be great to get it back for him a.s.a.p

Many thanks

This is tragic. A 28 year project...

The fact another Dart was stolen nearby in September probably means that anyone in the owners club should put extra locks on their garage...

Local Paper said:
A rare classic car worth more than £15,000 has been stolen from a garage in the Redland area of Bristol.

Some time over night on Monday November 26 and Tuesday November 27 the mint-condition Daimler SP250 Dart sports car was taken.

The offenders also stole six large antique suitcases.

The owner of the silver car had fully restored it himself during the 28 years that he has owned it, so the vehicle has tremendous sentimental as well as monetary value.

Only around 2,600 Daimler Dart's were produced, between 1959 and 1964 and many of them were exported.

It is, however, the second such car to have been stolen from the Avon and Somerset force area in recent months.

In September a 1964 SP 250 Dart was stolen from a barn near Shepton Mallet.

I never realised SP250's were built before 1931. Still its a beautiful looking car.

28 years restoring and owning the car frown The owner must be utterly devastated!

They weren't. 1959 to 1964. The term 'vintage' is often mis-used. I have a feeling it means something different in America, as they seem to use the term for any old car.

Indeed, I had an Austrian chap come to look at my Healey when I was selling, I told him I was selling because I wanted a vintage car...he thought the healey was vintage...it seems mainly to be the UK that uses the term vintage to mean car built before 1931.

I do think the owners clubs need to be very careful with names and addresses. Membership for £30 and robbers get access to a list of cars to steal....some clubs publish member details in club magazines, a practice that needs to stop.

I knew thatsmile I think the US cut off for vintage cars is 1925. I can understand peopople going up to WWII. But anything after that is classic.

Gosh, I never even thought of that. My Dad's got a couple of classic cars, so I know an awful lot of people with lovely old cars in their garages. The sad fact is that they're normally fairly innocent retired people without the necessary security and yes, of course they're all in owners clubs. My Granpa had his house and garage broken in to a few years ago, and they stole a whole load of things, but strangely left his 1930 Alvis sat there untouched!

Yes, but like with wine, vintage has a specific meaning in the world of cars.

My first car was a Daimler Dart SP250. Grey which I damaged in Warminster Wilkshire. I left it at a garage for repairs but received a letter saying it was stolen. It had a registration number 222TAU and the first owner was Lord Baden Powell's grandson. I still have the log book and manual. Must be somewhere.

Or everywhere, if broken up for parts. Very sad.
