Rustic French wines.

While dining on one of my favourite dishes, I started thinking, "what would really improve this, is a rough-as-you-please properly rural French wine, the kind that farmers would make from a little vineyard in the corner of their garden."

Now of course I spent all that time watching Oz and James thinking, "that's a nice XJS" and learning nothing in the slightest about wine.

So, can you get a properly rustic French red in the UK? Recommendations?
