Upgraded at last

Have always enjoyed this particular part of the PH forum, but haven't posted much in here as I've only been dabbling with a compact up till now. Having seen some of the splendid photos posted by you guys I've always felt a bit inadequate about my own efforts.
However, I have now taken the plunge into the DSLR world, so I have no excuses now. Once I've figured out what all the buttons do, perhaps I'll find the courage to post something.
p.s. The old film SLR took a bit of a back seat even whilst I only had a compact digital to play with. There's no hope it's going to find it's way out of the cupboard now. Anyone want to buy a Canon T90?

It is heart breaking, I agree, having sold 3 perfectly good film cameras for a fraction of their worth (or should that be cost) - but then they are only worth what someone else will pay. If we didn't have digital, they'd sell for an awful lot more. The price of second hand film cameras has pretty much fallen through the floor for amateur use because you just don't know what you're going to get until they come back from the developers. With digital, you can see instantly what you've just shot. If you've upgraded to a Canon, it might be woth getting an FD-EF converter so you can at least use your old lenses in manual focus on your new camera - might give you a bit of chance to decide what lenses to buy before you make the outlay. I'm sure there will probably be second hand ones on fleabay.
I was in the same boat - I had a tonne of FD gear which I just wasn't using enough; the effort of scanning slides and negatives was just a PITA compared to a compact digital.
In the end I bought a 5D and neatly packed all the FD cameras and lenses in boxes in the loft. I just couldn't bear to sell a mint T90 and much loved and (ab)used F1 for 60 quid on eBay. I figure they'll be historical curios in 50 years' time, even if they won't be worth anything!
The nice thing about the F1 in particular is that it will still work just as well in 50 years as it does today, providing you can get 35mm film. You can also appreciate it in the same way as a fine Swiss watch; I can't imagine I'll ever think the same about the 5D.
