Hi,

I've just sold my last car and am now in the market for a used A4 convertible.

Can anyone tell me what are the best options/configuration for this car?

I am looking at 2002 onwards, black with black leather. Instinct tells me to go for the full screen sat nav - is this worth doing or is an after market unit a better bet?

any help would be appreciated - and apologies if this has been covered here before...

Thanks

DVD Nav is a big help for retail and a very desirable option (it works well too). Outside of this popular stuff includes Bose, 6CD, parking sensors and heated seats.

ETA: Don't bother with a 2.4 whatever you do!

Thanks for that - being a newbie to this marque have no idea on the foibles of the various engines..

I'm inclined towards the 3.0 but am interested by your comments on the 2.4 as there seem to be a few around..

No more economical than the 3.0 - no cheaper or more powerful than the 1.8T. They're a tiny bit pointless and the trade views them accordingly.

Other than what has been said above:

Full electric memory seats are a nice option, especially if more than one of you will be driving regularly.

Larger wheels can look good (but that is more of a personal thing).

The Sport model over the SE for me any time.

Quattro is good too.

And an S-line if you can stretch to it.

Thanks for the replies, it seems you get a lot for your money with these cars in the used market.

Recommended option, Metal ROOF, the cabs are trouble. A nice A4 S-Line saloon will be a much better car.

Noisy, creaky body (not stiff enough), noisy creaky suspension , random electric roof faults,

Opinion of cynical technician, not that of Audi cars.

But what if you want a convertible that seats 4 (ok, at a push)?

Relative to what competition? The Beetle cab is very solidly built and doesn't flex noticeably. If you're comparing it to a tin-top, yes, it's going to be worse, but that's not necessarily a desirable alternative. Compared to the competition (CLK, 3-series, Saab 9-3) the Audi's fine.

Plus the tin-top A4 will lose a *lot* more of its value...

A desirable option for me, would be a bigger rear window, the rear visability, compared to the saloon, is terrible.

Easily remedied by putting the roof down wink
