Hi there,

Was recently toying with the idea of upgrading my TVR Cerbera to a Viper. Cuold anyone advise me approx running costs?

How muuch does it cost to fill the tank - and how many miles can I apporximately expect to get?
How much is servicing?
How reliable are they?

Many thanks,

Joel

Hi,

Top idea

Tank takes around 60 litres, so costs around £45 - £50 to fill up with Shell Optimax. I get around 250km (150 miles) on this in general driving. Motorway a bit more, fun driving a bit less! Expect around 15mpg urban cycle.

Servicing is very reasonable AFAIK - £160 for standard service, £250 for a big one, although someone here might have exact figures as I haven't had mine serviced yet!

Reliable? Think of 'bullet proof' and you won't be far wrong. Understressed engine, good build and will go on for miles. Don't know anyone who's had any bad problems.

I looked at a Cerbera a while back and know that servicing is very expensive and reliability is not the best.

Hope that helps?

Hi,

I've had a '93 Viper RT/10 for the last 3 years and can only echo the sentiments above. They appear bullet proof and in 6th gear on a motorway you can do ~80mph at 1400 rpm and still return 21 mpg. Fuel consumption was never a factor that I thought about when I bought my car but my recent average consumption has been about 19mpg. Obviously putting the pedal to the metal can reduce this significantly - but it has to be done!

Vipers also have an automatic gearshift lockout which puts the car from 1st to 4th when you are between 12-18mph and >608 rpm. This is also supposed to help fuel economy and the torque of the V10 takes this load easily in it's stride.

I've not had a major service yet but have been told that it ranges from £160 depending on whether it's a major one or not. Let's face it - it's only a lorry engine shrink wrapped with one of the best looking bodies a car could have!

You will not be disappointed if you get one - all of my expectations have been well exceeded and I still cannot stop grinning once I get into it.

Go for it!

Go for it!The running costs for my beast are only a fraction of the Cerbera i had and youcan tune these cars to 600+ bhp and still get solid reliability. They also handle very well but this can be improved depending on your driving style.Hold there price very well as prices are holding steady on all models.Go for a 1996 onwards car as these have a much better chassis than early cars.We had our TVR for a year and it spent a lot of its time being fixed, had the Viper 2 years and nothing has gone wrong with it(the is driven hard/raced/moded to 100bhp above standard with 100% reliability,GO FOR IT and you will never regret it,its a much underated car,but people are just starting to wake up to the charmms of these cars.(only problem is that there aren,t many in the U.K!)Good luck
