Hissing noise (2?)

My other post seems to be struggling so I'll try again...

I've had this noise since I bought the car but I'm starting to wonder if its normal. Does anyone else get it. Its mostly heard from outside the car on idle and is constant. I've not got any gasket leaks or holes in the exhaust or manifolds and the engine is strong? Any thoughts

ps couldn't resist showing my newly fettled engine bay off-Took me 3 days and about a tenner. Before and after.....waddya think?

Looks nice and clean

The hissing noise could be the induction noise - I get it on mine (sounds like darth vader with a cold...).

is the noise coming from the air filter area ? or where is it loudest ?

I too have the same noise and suspect a bearing of some description. However it has also crossed my mind that it could be completely normal. I used to have an awful tappet noise and now thats been sorted I hear every little tick, nock or hiss. Aghhhhhhh.

hi nice job try checking the servo pipes mine done the same and on mine there was an air leak at the bottom of the servo..try disconnecting the servo pipe block the end of it with a bolt and see if you still have the noise ken

Cheers for comments/info. Maybe just induction then, will still investigate further re clutch depression and actual location. (may have to take it for a spin to make sure it..erm...ah well no excuse)

ROLLING ROAD set up day TOMORROW!

predicted outcome: initial power run 165bhp, after a full set up it will produce 195bhp. It will turn out a previous owner had it polished, ported cammed etc etc....
and the previous owner never new.

The brake servo can rust through at the bottom of the casing. Best check it. For some reason, the S is prone to this problem.

It's not that new paint sizzling on the rocker covers by any chance ?

as b16rff has said the servo rusts at the bottom and causes a vacuum leak which sounds like an air leak that why i said to take the servo pipe off and block the pipe ..its the pipe that goes from the brake servo to the top of the engine at the back of the air box

Your car looks as if its an S3C so its like mine which does make quite a sucking noise, particularly when its cold. Worth checking the other things though just in case.

Yeah, smooth silver Hamerite. Goes on like a dream, dont think I couls get it to run if I tried.

I de-greased and sanded them back before spraying. Just hope it lasts.!!
