I've just got some vented discs for the front brakes but instead of fitting the old standard 2 pot calipers I want to fit 4 pots. I've read that calipers from 80-84 Toyota light commercials fit straight on but there's not a lot of them left lying around in scrap yards these days. Dose anyone know anything else that will fit?

What calipers are fitted originally - are they M16? If so then you could turn look into Wilwood 4 pot replacements.

This is a stab in the dark as I don't know anything about 2500M - a common mod for Mk1/2 Escorts is a Princess 4 pot caliper - any good...?

I'd go the Adrian Venn route every time..

also if you look at the MGC forums (MGCs use the same calipers as the TVRs) there is a comment that the Toyota/Landrover four pot caliper surface area is the same as the standard two pot so the actual gains are limited ...

Apologies - the Toyota caliper is similar to the Landrover both with 30% more surface area and better performanc. There is also a version of the Toyota with an alloy spacer so you can use them with vented discs.

I'm doing research for my Gilbern Genie with MGC front discs/calipers and got a little muddled up :-)

Now this is turning in to an interesting thread...

First of all I'm looking from the point of view of keeping the solid discs. I've just been looking at Brakes Internationals very helpful online catalogue/shop. They have the calipers, pads and fitting kit available for solid discs...

79-84 HI-LUX RN46 2.0 (4S) 4x4 Pick Up

BCA 1500 L/H 4 Piston Caliper - £54.21

BCA 1501 R/H 4 Piston Caliper - £54.21

2 x BBN95 Bleed Nipple M10 x 1 - £0.95

BPS1352 OES Brake Pad Set (4) - £16.28

BPF1129 Pad Fitting Kit Axle Set - £6.01

I have two concerns with this setup - increase in pedal travel and also the lack of availability of fast road compound pads (that I have found yet anyway!). I'm thinking it may be better to stick with the girling calipers and some EBC or Mintex pads if available.

The linked article does do a very good job of explaining the mounting concerns I had with different calipers 16P, 16PB and M16...

James,

The MGC has a similar Master Cylinder to a Landrover - it's 1" bore which is bigger than most 60's/70's cars I've come across. This Master Cylinder with the Toyota calipers seems to work.

I've no idea what diameter the TVR 3000M has but thinking about it it stayed the same when I moved to Wilwood four pots and I don't have a problem with pedal travel.

Thanks for your help everbody, I'll have a look in the local Jap brakers. I'll also have a look at the Landrover's to and see if anything looks anywhere near and report back. Any fresh info keep it coming.

Cheers Eric

Does anyone know the part numbers for Wilwood calipers that fit the Triumph hub? Are there standard parts you can buy from Wilwood that will just bolt on and do the job? Perhaps I should say:- are there standard Wilwood parts that will fit on a vented disc supplied for a Triumph front hub, or am I being too simplistic.
Just thought I would try to price out the cost of doing the conversion here in Canada

I think the Moss kit has Wilwoods in it. I bought my Wilwoods and discs as a kit from Demon Tweeks but I've had to hide the receipts box from the wife so can't easily tell you their part numbers :-)
