A few days ago whilst out of the car and engine on tickover to warm-up, i heard what appeared to be the starter motor kick in and wouldn`t stop until i fiddled with the revs and clutch(sounded awful}. Same`s just happened whilst driving @ 50mph all by itself. Now she won`t start at all on key or button so had to bump start.Intend to call factory on monday, as a new starter motor was fitted a couple of months ago by them. Just wondered if this is a common fault and why would it do this anyway ?

I've never heard of a starter motor kicking in after startup but sounds like the right area to commence investigations.

Intermittent short to the solenoid or perhaps the bendix drive may have gotten locked up scratchchin

I've not heard of anything like that before either. I'd be inclined not to drive (or even turn the engine on) until you've had a word with the Factory - or until someone here can definitely diagose and give the all clear to drive.

Just out of interest, how did you get the factory to do any work on your car?
I think all the M12 & M400s must be over a year old now and out of warranty, plus when I rang the factory a couple of months ago for some work as all my previous work & services had ben done by them, the respone was we are not working on any customers cars dealers only are doing the work now.
