GTV as a family car?
Discussion
Hi guys.
Can anyone comment on the reliability of a TS GTV and it's suitabilty for use as an occasional family car.
I have had a couple of 944's and loved them but the last had to go as a class 0 or 1 car seat will not fit in due to location of the gearbox. Can a seat be fitted in the GTV. Will it cost an arm and a leg to run, and will bits fall off regularly. I have a dad mobile for everyday and a Seven for fun so this would be for days out and going to work.
Any thoughts.

I used to have 2 kiddy seats in the back of my GTV no problem. Most of them fit, only advice is to get the slimmest seat possible to give maximum leg room.
May I suggest you take a look at a V6 as well, not really a lot more to run than a TS, and from what I've heard probably a little more reliable. Not putting TS's down, good cars, just think if you've come from a 944 may be just a little disappointing performance wise.

Reliability fine as long as you don't get a dog. Plenty of buying guides:

or trawl through this forum by doing a search and you'll find others.
They don't rust. They don't break down mechanically IF the timing belt has been changed early, the oil is the right type and is checked meticulously on a weekly basis and the rear suspension bushes have been replaced as soon as they get clonky.
Things to watch for - Alfa electrics! Clunky rear suspension, no evidence of a cambelt change, lack of the brown master key to reset the ECU.
Get the right car (I saw loads before travelling half the country to buy mine) and you won't regret it.

Indeed, my wife swapped her 2.0 Spider for a 3.0V6 and the perfromance is quite an improvement. Happy hunting
