Thinking of buying a GTV V6
Discussion
Hey there,
I was thinking of buying an Alfa GTV V6, I have owned a couple of Alfas and have got the bug bad! Just want to go faster now!
So I was wondering if any of you guys have any advice on what to look out for when buying a GTV V6. I know that the cambelt HAS to be changed if its over 60k miles, and that the disks are prone to warping. But anything else to look out for?
Budget is about £6000.
Thanks!

hello and welcome. My 80K mile 2001 GTV V6 cost me £6K just over a year ago. I have replaced the rear bushes with poly bushes because the old ones were goosed and had started to squeek and I have had a new airflow meter fitted, both of these are common problems.I have also replaced the exhaust with a stainless one because the old one snapped behind the silencer even though it looked fine, it now sounds
because I lost two silencers in the process so I am glad I changed it. It is now at 90K miles, burns no oil, has passed both MOTs I have put it through first time and looks almost like new inside and out. I am very happy with mine so I would reccomend one.

There's a good buyer's guide here: http://www.sportsalfa.com/buying.htm
Thanks for your help guys!
I have just had a look at sportsalfa.com, will be a regular visitor there from now on i think!
Am looking to get the GTV when I get home from offshore this time, so will probably be Jan time.
I think its a good present to myself for my 1st year in a proper job and for prob having to work xmas!
Does anyone know of any dealers that often have GTV's in, in Scotland / north of England?

Which rig/platform are you on, I am coming home from the Forties B today after 3 weeks
I'm not sure about dealers but for servicing, CP garage services in Dundee are good, I got my car through autotrader and had to drive down to Manchester to get it, so you may need to travel to get a good one.

Hey not on a rig/platform, am on a survey ship (thats 56 yrs old)! Working in the Irsh sea at the mo. Its a bit rough at the mo so working is a loose term, should really read "watching DVDs and lazing about"
Done 2 weeks already, am hopeing that i will be back in time for xmas
always get made to do really long trips
Though it does mean i should have enough spondoolies to get a nice car when i get back...

, I hate doing long trips, 3 weeks is more than enough for me.I hope the weather improves, that you get back for xmas and that you buy yourself a nice GTV shaped present.
I like the rough weather, no work, plus everone walks around like they are drunk, its quite amusing!
I've been browsing autotrader and found a couple of nice ones from dealers (dont have time to sell my current car so have to px it) but they are down in Kent! How much further could they be from the 'deen? None! But if its still there and its a good un then i may have to have a road trip in the new year... indeed.

Hi. They are a great car. NB: the cambelt has to be changed at five years irrespective of mileage; this is the critical requirement for most GTVs, not the alternative mileage requirement. Discs are fine and are not prone to warping, which is a fallacy: http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp_warped_braked...Budget is about £6000.
Check the oil cooler and the pipes to it. Good luck.
