On friday I received the parts from the factory for my LS7 install. I just can`t resist to post some pics of it here as they`re soooo beautiful. Maybe someone could share some insight on the mysterious part in the first pic, it must have something to do with fuel distribution. I`m sure the factory will tell me tomorrow but I want to work on it today...

So what's inside the box?
Take the lid off. You know you want to.

If it were that easy Steve. The box is welded and something (probably a 6-way valve?) is held in place by 2 screws on the back. I`m not THAT good in welding aluminium so it`s not an option.

Why does the mysterious box have wires? How would you service it if it is sealed up like that????

It all sure looks pretty.

Maybe Jeff Schwartz can help identify these parts and their purpose.

Hummm, so in the Aeromotive pic, what is the red thing at the top. The others are 2 fuel filters and a fuel pump, but what is the larger cylinder?

Also, why does the mysterious box have wires? How would you service something if it is so sealed up like that????

It all sure looks pretty.

The red thing on top is the fuel pump, below 100 + 10 micron filters + fuel pressure regulator on the right.
I guess the wires may have something to do with switching the fuel return to the tank, maybe they connect to the original fuel pump cables.

Ah you're fast. I went to the Aeromotive site and found the answers to my questions. They make very nice stuff.

I still don't get the sealed box though? Where are you supposed to mount the box? Any instructions?

Not yet, I`ll surely get them tomorrow but wanted to know more today! As I said it`s all about fuel distribution but the question remains: what goes where?

There are even some more fuel lines in the package, I thought somebody may have installed it already...

Keep us informed. Inquiring minds want to know.

Your profile says you're in Germany. Where did you buy your LS7 and what transaxle are you planning on using?

Isn't it the 6-way "Pollak valve" ?

There is some discussion about it in this thread :-

Thanks Kelvin, I also found that thread earlier but couldn`t use much of the information regarding the valve as I don`t know the connections inside the magic box - I wish it was a Flux capacitor as we all know how to use that.

So I proceeded to mount the dry sump tank which was a piece of cake with the engine out. It sure looks brilliant in there (it is mounted on a plate that is fastened to the chassis tubes on the left tank side) with huge clamps holding it in place - but where will I put the engine later on? confused

I`m using a cable operated GT2 box (G96) with custom gearing which luckily bolts right onto the G50 adapter plate.

Sven,

Please can you post pictures of your engine bay as I am hoping to use the LS7 with my build, and I am very interested to see where you are fitting the various components in place before the engine is installed.

Thanks very much,
Regards

Sure, I`ll post some pics tomorrow. I had to move the swirl pot to the right and thus extend the hose in order to make way for the dry sump (you can see some pics of the installation in a CanAm on the factory website btw). I`m sure they`ll give me detailed instructions for the installation, I just couldn`t wait to begin with it.
When the engine arrives (which is only a matter of days) I`ll probably have to move some stuff again..

Guys,

as expected I received an immediate replay from the factory on monday morning concerning my question with the install kit together with a great amount of comprehensive installation instructions, guidelines and bulkhead layout, just everything you need to know to put all the bits and pieces into the right place. With this information I could complete the entire installation without the need to ask any further questions. It should probably look like this:

And look what arrived just in time:

Here`s a pic of the wiring loom which was also sent by the factory and bolts right into the engine and the existing Ultima loom. As easy as it gets!

It`s a tight fit but it really fits:

Sorry for posting so many pics but I`m so glad that it all bolt right into my "old" GTR with all these high quality parts. Hope you enjoy.

Looking good.

So what did you have in your Ult before?

How much is the complete kit to do the transplant?

Is that an A/S LS7 ( I recognise the NO OIL label I think!!)

Thanks Pete. My previous engine was the LS6 which also had a customized loom but that was not even close to what you get today. I had to extend most of the cables and needed to develop my own fuel system, believe me it was no fun to look at the engine bay...

Cost depends on what you want to install and which parts you can keep (e.g. dry sump, fuel system, etc.), I don`t have a list here but I remember that all the parts are very reasonably priced. I thought about installing the Aeromotive fuel system before but then I remember it was too expensive for a game of trial and error. But now that it is fully supported by the factory I was more than happy to finally install it.

You`re right about the origin of the engine, an excellent built with all the parts jsut at the right place and many shining parts (i.e. chromed alternator, A/C comp, fixings, etc.). The label turned out to be a little bit misleading which I learned when I removed the plugs from the dry sump fittings...

P.S. Note the alternator on the left lower left side of the engine and the dry sump tank in the engine bay. They don`t foul (which was my biggest concern). More pics of the final installation to come.

Sven,

Thanks very much for posting the pictures - this information is very helpful, as I intend to fit the LS7 in my build.

Please post some more when you are able.
