Might be changing my job which, therefore, means a new company car

Currently got a 335i but thinking about reducing costs and leaving money over for a 'fun car'.

Therefore, thinking that a 2.4 JTDm Sportwagon Auto might well fit the bill

Anyone got any experience?

ok, I'll go for the TI - in black of course

was planning to go for TI anyway if I decide to go the 159 route

tried the 159 3.2 before I chose the 335i and didn't like the 4wd - made it feel too heavy and lots of transmission whine - besides, object of getting the JTDm is as a 'cheap' option as a company car so 4wd doesn't make sense

do fancy the auto version though

does the 5 pot diesel sound ok?

just noticed your profile

your older spider is identical to my old one

I had a 2001 for 3 years (2.0 Lusso, black, red leather)

ran it from new up to 70k miles - loved every minute of it...even the lethal lift off oversteer

I'm a long way from ordering at this point

1) gotta get the job
2) gotta take it
3) they gotta let me have an Alfa company car
4) gotta decide that I can face changing 'down' from my 335i

....however, the lure of an Elise in the garage as well is what's tempting me towards a 159 diesel

just read a few reviews of the 2.4 jtd in various maagazines and they don't seem to rate it's performance that highly

0-60 in 8.6 isn't that great for 210bhp either

does it feel quicker on the road?

Much! It's not 8.6 anyway.

I had a chap with a 530d say the 159 was quicker.

not being difficult here, as I'd very much like to believe you, but none of the figures seem to support that statement

Well it's only what he said. Has anyone got in gear times for both?

Can't see a change being 'down' myself. I'd have an Alfa over a beemer any day.

generally, so would I - I'm as big an alfa fan as anyone

however, I drove the 335 and the 159 3.2 extensively before reaching a very clear view that that the BMW is by far the better car in the 'top spec' versions - frankly the alfa is all style and very little substance in V6 form

my view then and now is that the Alfa is much more competitive with the German rivals in the diesel versions so, if I decide to switch to a less expensive every-day car, a 2.4JTDm looks a good choice compared so say a 320d
