Shiny engine goodies?!

Since I bought the new "S" just over a week ago I done a fair bit of cosmetic cleaning up. Shampoo'ed carperts Polish back the paint, scrubbed up the hood and restored the leather. Its currenlty getting steam cleaned in preparation for a waxoyl session.

I've just started on the engine. I've started to polish the "EFI" plenum on top (sanded down, coarse polish repeat etc). But what about rocker covers?

Does someone like Burton or Vulcan make alloy rocker covers for the 2.9? In my own opinion (pls dont be offended) chrome looks a bit naff, and painted in anything other than black looks a bit like its trying too hard.

Any thoughts on engine bay goodies or tips on polishing and detailing? Thanks Guys

Have you thought about having the rocker covers powder coated?
Had mine powder coated red with all the rubber hose replaced with blue silcon from Tim at ACT. looks the bizz

Burton do make alloy covers but they are mucho expensive - over £200.

I spent ages a couple of years ago polishing a pair of standard Ford covers up and then lacquering them, and they looked the business, almost like chrome. Unfortunately the lacquer wasn't heat-proof... I might give them another go one day.

The ones I have on just now are smooth dark blue Hammerite, and I think they look ok - like you, I don't want to look as if they're "trying too hard". They do wipe up to a nice shine if you try once in a while.

The original silver looks fine to me. I just gave mine a clean when I did the tappets.

Mine are a sort of rusty brown colour ,but when I do get round to sorting them I will be going for a Powder Coated Silver finish.
On the subject of alternate rocker Covers I managed to get Chrome Rocker Covers for My V8 Engine, these were off a small block Chevy (I think) but came with adaptor plates to suit the rover.Maybe someone does these for the Cologne, maybe worth looking at some American "Car Goodies" websites.
