well!after having the car up on ramps in the drive trying to remove the floor pan i thought s@d this.i have evos and asked the mitsi garage i use if they wanted the job as i know they have serviced a couple of nobles there before.Neil the workshop manager was very keen so the car was delivered days later.Dave the ralliart tech was enlisted and removed the whole of the floor pan which is a time consuming job mainly because of all the pot rivets.It was stripped of what little paint was left to reveal an alarming ammount of rust which if left would very shortly have been terminal.Dave then applied rust treatment,echprimed,4coats of 2pack paint ,waxoyled and sealed.While the floor pan was off i polished the trays as well.The10mm water hoses were all replaced plus main water hoses and matrix hose with 3ply silicone .she also had a bit of a service ie oil and filter,plugs.leads,gearbox oil,coolant flush etc.The trays were put back with stainless self tapers and washers.The bill for this was 500 pounds which i think was great with the added bonus of total care for my car.on a final note the price was for labour only as i provided all the items used.The tel no for nunns mitsi is 01472 200000

mild steel chassis - no sign rust protection, alluminium panels screwed through with mild steel cutting screws, add water, add salt, stress with high G and massive torque - hey presto problems?

i've seen some very rusty rear chassis's and it does not look good - the story I heard is that some of them got left out in the rain at the factoryAllways been a worry of mine;

a simple fix might be to drill holes in the box section and fill with waxoil - maybe even fill the hole with a grease nipple or something similar and top it up at every service !

a simple fix might be to drill holes in the box section and fill with waxoil - maybe even fill the hole with a grease nipple or something similar and top it up at every service !
What kind of weight would that add to the car?

Another alternative would be to allow a good dose of oil to be splashed about on those flat alloy floor panels.

....Nothing, 1 -2 kg at most. Waxoyl is as described, waxy - ergo light.

Not sure if I'm missing something here. Wouldn't filling the box section prevent it rusting from the inside out but not outside in, which is more like what happens?

Plain facts are that the screws go through the side walls of the chassis tubes so there's a direct route for water external to the frames to get inside. Suppose its both out->in and in->out????

Ok so what we need to do is seal every screw hole and fill the box section with Helium to make the car lighter and dry air no oxygen no rust. I'll get the Helium

mine hasn't gone rusty on the outside - but i think i'm going to fill the box sections with waxoil just in case and future proof it
are the sections fully welded up ? or is there access inside anywhere ?
