What a co-incidence that they'd all run out of printer paper at the same time? …Lots of shiny Chevrolet Corvettes in the Warehouse stationary complex, Palmerston

Spotted: 6 old men on Harleys outside my house - local old boys biker club picking up my neighbour. Noisy buggers but got to admire their machines.
Nice sight
Metallic copper? color Elise on the Nth Western Motorway. Really good color choice.
Hideous sight
Hillman Avenger in Dulux brushed on blue jacked up at the rear about 250mm. Black vinyl roof "repaired" by painting the splits black. Southern motorway doing 80kph in the outside lane. Please someone make it go to Pick a Part for scrapping. We must think of the children.
Cheers Mark

How did your car go??
Car went well on track... went lousy on the way back home... turns out it's not a Lotus Exige, but a Lotus Expire
How did your car go??

Thankfully no damage was done... it threw a crank pulley on the Napier-Taupo road. Having seen what happened to Mark Cropper's (kiwikid's) engine when the same thing happened to him at Pukekohe, I shut the engine down as soon as I realised what had happened.
After waiting an hour and a half for the AA truck to come pick me up, we got it back home in one piece. Saturday was spent stripping and analysing and finding out that not a lot was actually wrong other than someone not torqueing the crank bolt up tight enough. A quick call to tech-support at KW historics (thanks Ken) confirmed that everything was as it should be and repairs were made..... she's back running as strong as ever, although I'll be replacing the cmbelt and pulleys at the next service in Jan/Feb as a precautionary measure.
Trackday pics to follow tomorrow when I've got time

Am glad it was nothing too serious, I bet you were having nervous moments unveiling what actually went wrong under the hood, and just as well you were in the right spot for cell coverage. I think theres a few spots a long that stretch were coverage is almost nil? so your lucky charms havent run out yet
Do you have to pay extra for that transport through AA?

I knew exactly what had happened the moment I got the bonnet up, it was pretty obvious. I knew the engine hadn't lunched itself, as the cambelt and pulleys were still seated correctly..... the main worry was that the crank pulley could have bruised the crankshaft while flailing around. As soon as I got home I downloaded the PDF of the engine manual and saw that it spigots over the cam-drive pulley, and knew that at worst, I'd be replacing that, instead of the whole crankshaft, which was a relief!
The low-loader was free as part of my AA-membership. I've got their top-level membership where they'll recover me from anywhere, anytime. Must say I was VERY impressed with the service from both the AA and the subcontracted towing company. The bloke took EXCELLENT care of my baby while it was in his care and got it home to me very quickly. I've been an AA member for 4 years and neve rhad to use it, but now I'll have no hesitation in signing up again when it's time to.
The main reason I've got AA is because the Exige doesn't carry a spare tyre, so one flat could spell "stranded" for me.... had hoped I'd never need it for breakdown!
Pretty sure it was caused by someone not torquing the crank bolt to factory specs. It was reassembled with Loctite 243 and the Lotus-specified 205Nm torque setting.... it'll not be coming apart again by itself, only when Ken gets in there in a month or two.
Good thing is, I now have the "special socket" that'll allow me to check it for tightness each time I'm under there.
All's well that ends well.

Great stuff George, Just checking out AA now. Never had dramas with the four banger, had spare tyre and ground clearance to go on most trailers in an emergency, but will need AA on this car twice as much to go wrong, really low ground clearance and no spare tyre.
Things we do for kicks eh!!
