this weekend i will be taking my essex v6 to jw's for him to work his magic over it, so now my attention is drawn to the gearbox.currently i've got the four speed f-type gearbox with overdrive also known as eight forward and 2 reverse, what options have i got? the gearbox hasn't got any gear selection problems only that it leaks oil.

On my Taimar overdrive only works on 3rd and 4th, as I understand it you would wreck the overdrive if used in reverse.

That would be because the inter-lock to the left of the gearlever is still working, which is very rare...OP....although they can be opened up and the contacts cleaned. The thought of running a JW engine linked to the TR6 diff that I suspect you have, may require you to spend money in that area, if you gearbox is only leaking.... however the diff carrier, if it has not already been strenghten will need looking at.

If I knew how, I would be really tempted to shoehorn this into an M-series:

(a Ford V8 302, see Ebay item 130164271667)

It's *easy* laugh

Step 1 Get a *big* pile of money
Step 2 Add some more money
Step 3 ...

I have a Taimar which will meet with the lump and g'box from my '88 Mustang "real soon now..." (ie just as soon as I have completed Step 2). There are a number of people who have already trodden the path who would probably confirm that it's not just buying the engine though ;-)

But having driven one, I know I want to do it!

cheers
Nick

Nothing wrong with the TR6 diff...I would/and have been happy to run 200BHP through it, the TVR carrier breaks in standard form 115bhp, John's engine build at the minimum will give you a OE spec engine, and if you have spec'd it, more. I would pull the carrier out and gusset all the boxes and replace the diff bushes, (note, the rear diff bushes are not standard TR6 units)

Adrian modified the diff carrier in my old 3000m - made a lot of weird driveline noises and slackness go away. Well worth the money.

Adrian modify's lots of things, and he has been doing it for a long timesmile

trust me if AV starts a sentence "I would suggest that you do..........." Then just do it. it will save you a lot of time, aggro and money in the long run.
