Hello all,

My heater only seams to blow hot air and never cold! is this a common problem as turning the temp dial seems not to do much!!!! what does this hot/cold dial opperate as I looked around the heater box to see what moved when I turn the dial but nothing seemed to move and I turn it. I also noticed how stiff it is to!! HELP anyone

My heater gives cold (ambient) air OK, it does get mighty hot if you turn it round to 40% or more though. There's a couple of valves which control the flaps (and one for the heater pipe under the dash if I recall). I think there's some adjustment on the linkages, you can try that.
You'll also find the aircon struggles on a hot day after a thrash and the car's hotsoaked or been out in the sun (worse with mine being black cool)

It's all a bit Heath Robinson I'm afraid...

Sounds like you may have a problem if it is really stiff. Have you turned the aircon on, by pulling on the knob? (At least I think thats how it works, I sold mine 2 years ago)

You can get cold air, I'd try adjusting the linkages first and see how it goes.

Yes, when I turn the AC on it does lower the temp to a lower temp but it seams to be mixing with hot air all the time!!!!!!

Does the hot/cold switch link to a valve under the dash??????????

Mine either gives very hot air or not very cold. I have to use the AC to get cold.

The mixer valve is in the tunnel, access is via the front inspection hatch under the car.

This is a common problem because the HVAC system does not use a blend door. The diverting valve that keeps hot coolant from circulating through the heater core must be shut off completely to prevent heating the air that goes through the system. As noted, that valve is in the tunnel and can only be accessed from under the car. Your problem could be a bad valve or a faulty connection to the dial in the cabin that does not allow you to close it fully.
