If you pump the tyre full of foam you'll need a new tyre. Best to take the wheel and tyre in the van and get the puncture fixed, should only cost about £10 rather than pay for a new tyre.

Had this last Sunday. Answer is "It depends!"

I used two cans of foam - the first I left the nail in, as suggested by some onlookers as it was a big fella. But, once you've foamed up and start driving, the nail might distort the tyre away from the seal as it hits the road. The foam lasted about three miles. With a second can I took the nail out and it lasted four miles at 30mph until giving out - the nail had actually punctured the side wall very close to the wheel and this was what gave out.

To answer the queston, I would take the nail out. I would always replace the tyre rather too, rather than repair it as suggested above.

Jaky up car, take wheel off and ask a mate for a lift or catch a taxi to a tyre place.
