oil for VW Sharan diesal Automatic

Im new to this forum and am not a car expert. Ive just bought a VW Sharan Diesal Automatic and the manual reccomends using VW 506 01 oil for long life service. Are there other makes of oil I can use?
Ive looked everywhere and cannot seem to find the answer. Any advice would be appreciated.
