I have tried the SIDC, but they don't seem to advertise members cars.
I just want a Scoob that has been looked after well by an enthusiast.

Been trying to understand the Scooby thing of late, what do the different references mean, ie MY00 etc. Assume the 00 or 02 is the year but the MY etc .Do the saloons/estates (5 doors) have different refs?

'MY' means Model Year.

Does the SIDC not have an updated FAQ on the model differences? (it's 3yrs+ since I owned an Impreza)

The SIDC do make some updates to the FAQ - although I haven't seen any lately. Must admit, I've been considering updating it myself.

As far as the 'MY' thing is concerned, it does mean model year. So upto (and including) MY00 - this would refer to old shape (or if you prefer 'classic') Scoobs. MY01/02 normally refers to the new shape 'bugeye' and MY03 generally refers to the latest version (Impreza III as Subaru call it).

Scoobynet is a very good place to start if you are looking for a Scoob. A 10K budget will get you a decent later model UK car (around 98/99). Do your research though as there are loads of models. The SIDC FAQ is useful for this alone.

If you are considering buying a jap import, get it checked out. They must be run on SUL and octane booster, otherwise you WILL suffer engine failure eventually.
