I'm thinking of selling the Trans Am (because I don't use it much and it's got some transmission problems) and ploughing at least some of the cash into the Mini.

I really want a nice 1380 but the prices from places like MED are pretty high. Any recommendations for what I should spend the cash on (let's say around a grand)???

Cheers!

Tom (MiniMax) has some chaps up near him that will build a killer engine for around £1000 I think...

that is true, I was asking them that same question the other day - i.e what will a grand get me? they came back with a smoking 1330 or a torquey 1380 - more like £1500 will get you a smoking 1380 with MED eating performance. nb they regularly beat the major manufacturers on the grass track with their own home built engines from houghton-le-spring, I'm getting a hotted up special from them in a few months.

Might be worth speaking to Bill Richards, he’s not the cheapest but his 1293’s often kill most other 1380’s. He built the 90’s rover rally cars, only problem is he’s in Ashford, Kent and will want to meet you before he’ll build you the engine, he’s also fussy who he’ll build for, seen him tell people they have years waiting lists to put them off.

Also try speaking to Keith Calver who is further up north, he writes for Miniworld/mag but also builds engines, he’s very helpful with any problems you may have and willing to give you free advice.
