Swirl tank replacement

I discovered yesterday that the swirl tank has a microscopic hole and is leaking water.
I'm going to have a go at replacing it myself, it looks straightforward ~ is that right? ( I'm no great mechanic but it's about time I started doing some jobs myself ~ is there anything I should be aware of?)

Does anyone know a decent source? Douglas Valley have none and I'm looking at nearly £200 from David Gerard after VAT and delivery.

I am just about to remove mine and repaint it as a purely cosmetic exercise (assuming that I don't find any similar holes in it!)

Should be reasonably straightforward - drain the coolant, remove all the hoses from the swirl tank (label them first because it's important that they all go back in the same place!) and unbolt the tank from the chassis.

If mine IS damaged, I might try patching it with solder. If that doesn't work, I'll get a new one made up - I'm not paying £200 for one, if I can help it...

Get in touch with thegamekeeper on here, pretty sure he was quoting around the £100 mark, but don't quote me on that.

Judging by the condition of my metal pipes, and how corroded the swirl pot feels on the inside if you put your finger in, I reckon most of them are going to be getting pretty tired by now.

I bought one from Steve Reid classics (the gamekeeper) - call him on 01928 719267. He had one left when I bought mine... cost me £115 for a stainless jobbie with brass cap necks and a pressure cap delivered.

I am well happy with the result - take a look at the photo on Myphotoalbum... go to page 4.

I still have the old one if you want to play with doing a repair... that offer goes to TVRGIT as well if yours is bad and you want to compare which would be easiest to fix. (I only have one though so be quick...)

Took my swirl tank off today (photos on web site) - the tank itself isn't too bad, it wasn't leaking before but it might be the paint that's holding it together - we'll find out when I wire brush the old paint off!

Don't think I'll take up your kind offer either Kev, thanks very much - if this one needs too much fixing I'll get one made.

I think you are both wise... It wasnt a VERY generous offer I know as it is knackered, but if anyone wants to mess with it to make a pattern or try a repair, just let me know...

Just spoke to Steve Reid. He has no more V6 type in stock and is reluctant to make them on a one off basis, he will however make 5 so if anyone else would like one, or to invest in one, it would help me out. If it would make the order up I would buy two and sell one on at cost later. They are not cheap as such but to make from scratch would not be cheap either
