LFW - Long Distance Driver
Discussion
Hi All,
I am looking for some work doing long distance driving.
As a background I am usually a car salesman (prestige, last job Mercedes Benz) but have been off work ill following Glandular Fever which has laid me low for most of this year.
I am looking to get back to work (there is only so much Bargain Hunt a man can take) in some form where I don't have the stress and pressure of my old job immediately.
I am a Qualified Observer for the IAM, am about to train as a Senior Observer and have driven most things from LWB high roof vans to Bentley Flying Spurs. I have also done some chauffeuring work. I have a UK car licence with 6 points (2 x 3 points for speeding) and have no at fault accidents to my name. I am used to driving long distance (60k miles a year) and have an excellent knowledge of the UK roads (I used to be a rep covering the South of England).
I am happy to work long hours and stay away from home, I am also happy to work nights.
I am based in North Yorkshire (Scarborough).
I'm honest, well presented and a good hard worker and would love to get back working if someone will help me out with some work.
Cheers
Mark

I've often wondered about jobs like this.
When I've heard people complaining about how they have to drive 70k miles a year, and travel all over Europe for work - I always think "you jammy bugger."
So what do they actually do? What job can I get where I have to, oh no, drive over to Munich again, or go to the Milan office for a spell - what a pain.
Just in case anyone's hiring, I have about 4 years sales experience, including 18 months recruitment/headhunting, a smattering of French, Spanish, Italian and Greek in roughly that order of competence, a clean UK driving licence and would love to be based anywhere in Europe.
Currently bored out of my mind in Croydon and available for interview immediately!
Oh and I have an economics degree if that's any use?

You'd find it interesting for a while, then (probably) get bored of pounding motorways, especially in the UK.
I'd find it unlikely that any company would pay an employee to drive throughout Europe when it's cheaper and quicker to fly to most places (and that isn't terribly exciting after the first few trips). Unless said employee is taking important equipment of course, in which case then they may indeed drive.
Personally I prefer driving in Europe to the Uk (might just be down to novelty value though), but even then, driving for 12 hours straight gets a bit tedious.
The grass isn't necessarily greener, and all that.

Oh I'm well bored of UK motorways. I did used to drive on them quiet a lot and got bored of it very quickly.
I know I'd get bored of driving around Europe after a while too. But I figure I'd get bored of anything after a while, and just for this next while, I wouldn't mind a spell of driving extensively around the continent, which I agree is tons better than the UK.
I don't enjoy driving at all in the UK at the moment. I live in Surrey and the roads are crowded, the police and cameras are everywhere, and besides I've only got access to my girlfriends little corsa which isn't much fun.
