Hi All,

Doing a bit of a winter restoration and clean-up on the car and hope to get it through it's MoT before the onset of winter. However, I think one of the tyres might fail the MoT and have been looking around for a 205/70 by 14". The car in question is a 3000M Turbo Widebody and it would appear that those size tyres are no longer made. I can get 195/70 by 14", does anybody know if these will fit onto the rims?? without severely affecting the handling or worse coming off the rim entirely.

All answers or comments welcome.

Cheers

Have a look on www.reifen.com, there are 4 types available in this size. Delivery to GB should be no problem.

And if like me you are a complete mechanical duffer, have a look at http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyreinfo.html which explains all about tyres and stuff

"H" speed rated tyres are available (up to 130mph) from my supplier but anything above that is difficult and can be very expensive when you find them. I recently had the same problem finding 185/70/15's for my Grantura sTeVeR

Steve: let me know when you next plan to take the Grantura up to 130mph and I'll remember to stay out of the way......

OE tyre on the compomotives were the Michelin XWX (picture G on the antiquetyres site).

In answer to fitting these, any good fitted should be able to fit them...If you do split these at any time the alloy washers that go under the head of the bolts were upgraded as they tended to break into 2 parts when disturbed, and the internal 'O' seals will need to be replaced.

Peter. I am sure your comments were tongue in cheek and you realised I was referring to the speed limit of the "H" rated tyres not my little old car. I honestly have no idea what the top speed of my Granny is because the speedo only goes up to 120mph but it does pull over 6000 rpm in O/D top with a 3.9 diff. sTeVeR

Indeed. My recollection of my MkII is that at 80mph it felt like twice that. I did once have a front tyre blow-out at 100+ mph on a french motorway (NOT in a TVR...) and was jolly glad for traction control etc.

Hi All,

205/70/14 tyre successfully ordered and delivered to local garage through Camskill's in Cumbria, Thanks to all who replied. Once the tyre's changed I can get it MoT'd and carry on with the winter clean up.

Cheers
