Evening all,

Due to start my inaugural chasis treatment next week whilst off work. I know, I know, the whole chassis, waxoyl, POR15 thing has been done so many times before but I could still do with some advice with things I can't find answers for.

People seem to put waxoyl on top of the second coat of POR15 - is this necessary, just a belt & braces thing or because you can't guarentee coverage of the top of the out riggers? How much POR15 (volume) will I need?

Thanks

Duncan

I put Waxoyl on top because .... well, I don't know really. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

And 500ml (I think - I threw the tin away) was enough to do outriggers, wishbones, hub carriers, some of the garage floor, my hands and a splash left over.

I haven't used POR15 myself, but provided YOU FOLLOW the INSTRUCTIONS and use Metal Ready where necessary - and properly, you should not need to waxoyl the painted surface.

In my opinion, POR15 has had varied reports probably because the instructions have not been followed. You will end up with a very hard durable surface that shouldn't need any further protection. It's all down to preparation and patience.

Couple of years ago I used por15 & have had por15 silver go yellow within 6 months, it does say that it is not UV stable. This time I have used a por chassis paint over the por15, fingers crossed that it will be better. Would advise not leaving por15 as the top coat.

Do put a topcoat over POR15 and then finish off with Tectyl356, not Waxoyl.

Frosts have told me to protect POR15 if at all exposed to sunlight and I am going to use their Dinitrol on my outriggers (as long as it is coming by Royal Mail) even if it is only just visible.

Thank you all. Not sure looking forward to this is the right phrase but I'm sure I'll be glad I've done it once it's finished.....

What UV do the outriggers/wishbones etc, come to think of it any of the chassis see?
Put 2 coats of POR on the outriggers, only waxoyled as you can't guarantee you've got evrywhere unless its body up/off.
Had it on the wishbones for 30 months and still comes up shiny black if polished. Wouldn't bother with an overcoat unless your into concours as it'll get covered in crap anyway which you'll not be able to get to easily. I would suggest a slight discolouration is better than rust/holes!

My wishbones & engine bay degraded from silver to 'champagne yellow' .......... I assumed that there would be no affect too
