Ok my Chevy 6.3 has been built by Fastco in the states to race prepared specs.
Its got a lively cam to say the least!.
One question though. Daryl who is a very knowlegable chap (who built the engine) says Redline 10W40 is the street use oil he recommends.
Im having trouble finding it in the UK, and it basically works out around £46 for a gallon from Demon Tweaks. The similar fully synthetic Magnatec from Castrol is £26 from Halfords.
Now I wonder what the difference is, as I have been told it has some sort of addatives which suit the high performance Chevy engines, and if so, is it necessary/recommended by the guys who have Ultimas. I dont mind paying for it - if its worth the extra.
Thoughts on this would be apppreciated.

Wilder: I posted a message about flat tapet cams and oil about two months ago. I do not know if you have rollers or not but if you don't, you need to heed the advice given in the article that I quoted that indicated that the levels of zinc and I beleive phosporous have fallen well below exceptable limits and that shell rotela quaker racing and I think another were the only oils in the states that still had appropraite levels of these materails. I just looked for the article to be more accurate but since I have a LS1 with rollers I diddn't "frame it and post it in the garage" After I posted the remarks. Hope this helps. Lee
Wilder not to be a pain but regardless of it being a hyd or solid liftre cam and regardless of who built it the problem is in the cam lifter interface. You need to verify if the ngine was built with flat tappet lifters or roller lifters. If flat tappet liffters were used pay heed to info in first post if rollers were used not as critical. Hope all this helps Lee
Hello Wilder....your engine has a custom hyd roller cam, with Morel severe duty roller lifters....so low zinc oils not a real big concern with this engine....

But as stated in the form FLAT TAPPET hyd cammed engines need a ZINC based oil to reduce rapid cam & lifter wear..most oil companies have greatly reduced or eliminated all zinc from there oils...
We have recommend to use additives such as STD & Lucas oil additive with each oil change...these additives are high in zinc and other fiction modifiers....use it with FLAT TAPPET hyd cammed engines when changing oil.
As to Rottela & other diesil oil..they contain high zinc levels & that is good BUT IMO they contain way to much engine detergents for gas engines.
