Damn if only I knew someone that would lend me the money!!

Lovely little car and a fantastic bargain

Out of curiosity, how much work was it to fit the Cosworth 24V into the Tasmin frame?

You need to make new headers, and with the heads being wider there is bugger all space to put them.

the block should mount to the original mounts as its virtually the same.

things like the alternator and pas pumps may require some latteral thinking.

depending on where your rad is it may need moving further forward and uprating.

its certainly doable and has been a few times... I know where there is a nice twin turbo motor if you fancy it...

The T5 box is no problem a few of the v6 cars now run them. V8 is possible but tight as the chassis is supposed to be narrower than the v8 cars. you'd def want to move the rad into the nose and go for a bigger one. exhaust maniolds will be the biggest headache.. With the V8 being a fair bit lighter you can probably get away with having it a bit further forward than the v6 depending on front xmember clearance.

There Have been a few road cars converted. one in the states who did mod the chassis and I know Moore Racing did one on a road car. possibly a bit easier on a race car.

The rest of the transmission would cope with the v8 as its basically Jag xj6 and beefed up tasmin bits.

Well I have bought Car 55 and going to be putting a 4tlr RV8 in it with a T5. then I can compete in class C.

With a datalogger and running 175bhp/ton at the wheels ;-)

I'd guess at somewhere around the price the car is up for...

biggrin that was my thoughts.
so i have a dilema.
original idea was to get a rough or non running chimaera/griff
drop the v8 & t5 in strip it out beef it up and go tracking for a year
then enter into racing the following year.
or now buy this car as it stands & flog the v8?
what should we do, any suggestions. torn between easy route but no v8
or tuff but rewarding (expensive) route.

I'd get shot of your engine and box and buy something thats complete and ready to burn rubber IMMEDIATELY. Think of the expense IF things get out of hand and the hassle of doing it all, and the not knowing when its going to be finished. You'd be on the track a year earlier and having fun, fun, fun !!

Mind you i'm an impatient sod but you might like a challenge !!

Having built 2 race cars, one from scratch and one from a rolling chassis that just needed an engine and box ( and embarking on a 3rd build from just a chassis :yikesmile

My advice would be to buy Pete's car ( or Sam Heads with or without sequential box) get your licence and come racing...

The hidden costs in putting a car together can quickly mount up. Ok so the taz is in the least power full class, but its still shaping up for some good racing, with a nice mix of cars.

If you buy a running car you could spent the winter getting to know it and testing / track days and hit the ground running and well ahead of the guys prepping new cars) at the start of the season..

That would be the cheapest and most cost effective route. I'd not bother too much about sending a year testing, just get straight down to It. i'd not even done a track day before I did my ards and only got in one time on the track before my first race....

If you really want some more experience before your first race spend the 3k on the week long advanced ards at silverstone ( you get your licence some top instruction some race wear and a couple of races out of it) that will get you a year or so's experience in a week !!!

You going to buy it then. If so good man.

What do you want for the 5tlr as my put that in my 400SE and the 4ltr from the SE in the Racecar.

Good advise Graham, I'm going to do the week long ards at Silverstone, My Tuscan will be back after its total re-build in November, I intend to get use to the car over the winter and have a go with you blokes next season, not too sure what colour to do the Tuscan tho (possibly black or orange) its Darrens old two seater, which will stay a two seater after the re-build, I also intend to keep the roof on it, the misses is going up the wall, amongst other TVR spares, I've got 20 tuscan wheels in the garage along with two TVR's, cant even get the family push bikes in there anymore!
