It's an annual event by Kit Car Magazine held at Gateway International Raceway near St Louis, October 11-13.
It's competition event amongst kits that include timed sessions in Road Course, Drag Racing, Autocross (pylon course time trials).
I last competed in this in 2004, I'm heading back this year, since it doesn't conflict with anything I had planned.
I hope to see some Ultima fans or owners there.
Thanks
Jeff

This sounds like fun Jeff. Thanks for the spreading the word. St Louis is a little far for me to venture but I'm sure you'll find someone from the area to help hold the flag.

I won the Autocross and Road Course by several seconds over the next car. Had the highest 1/4 mile trap speed, 143mph with boost turned down. The new 6 piston monoblock brakes worked awesome as did the BFG G Force R1's. The car handled perfectly with 10 clicks in the shocks. (No need for sway bars.) The next day the Editor of Kit Car Mag shot my car, going to use the image for the T Shirt and trophys for next year.

That's awesome. All of the other kit cars that showed up placed behind the Ultima GTR. Congtatulations, Jeff. Will you post video?

What's the next event at which all competitors will fear the arrival of a GTR?

Dean Lampe's RCR 40 didnt do to bad, only had 20 miles on the clock when it turned up to the event, put in a slightly quicker time than the GTR on the road course. Can't wait to see what a Superlite will do.............

.......I heard a different version from Jeff, he said he hosed the times of the RCR40 but there was a problem with the timing equipment, the transponder in his car was not working properly.

I know.... sounds like an excuse, which is why I didnt post something when I heard about it last week.

Your post prompted me to do a little homework.... it has been admitted on organiser's forum that there was a problem with the timing equipment and that there were faster times than those posted.

http://www.runngun.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=83

I think you can be safe in assuming that there is no such thing as a car that can turn up with 20 miles on the clock and beat Jeff in his car....it is a very well sorted 1000hp car driven by an ex-racer.

Sorry couldn't resist.biggrin

I think you will find that Deans car was on the tail of the Ultima and actually prompted Jeff to outbrake himself into the very fast turn one ...more than once...

And Deans car has done one track day for test and tune and only 20 miles on the clock....not bad for a vintage replica....now I could not resist...

Surely if there were timing issues then every car had the same chance to be quicker ....including the RCR....

Now what would happen if some in-car video turned up to validate the above claim....HHMMM.

Dont get me wrong this is all friendly banter....I really do appreciate the level of excellence that Jeff has instilled into his car ..but dont be quite so quick to judge the other guys out there doing their best with their beloved cars........

cool

This is my first visit to your site and I want to extend an invitation to all who are close enough to join us next year at Run and Gun. I think Jeff had a great time and I hope he would recommend this event to all of you. It is a fun and safe enviroment to let our cars stretch thier legs and it would be great to see more ultima's present. I, along with Clois Harlan, organize the event and I can confirm that we did have problems with our transponders on the second day in the afternoon. I think we all ran faster times as the weather was warmer and the sun was out. It is truly a shame that we couldn't record those times, my car was running very well too.

On a personal note, I love to drive my GT40. I will race with/against anyone. But it is just for fun and as feirce as we compete on the track, we are all friends in the garage. I really enjoyed having jeff at our event and I really don't want this to turn into a contest over who has a bigger.... I did beat Jeff by a split second on the road course but it could have gone the other way just as easy. I certainly didn't "hose" him and I will tell you that he didn't "hose" me. I hope that Jeff and I will be able to line up again next year and write a new lesson for Run and Gun 2008.

By the way, the shirts and trophies have not even been discussed yet. Kit Car Mag has nothing to do with the event other than covering our cars in thier magazine.

I look forward to seeing more Ultima's at Run and Gun next year.

Dean

OK.. sorry... hosed may not have been the right word.... just using a bit of artistic license in response to the "sorry couldnt resist"... all in good jest.

The point I was making was that Jeff had a problem with his timing equipment.

There is no doubt that the RCR is fast.

While you're here Fran, when's the superlight going to hit a track,I'm keen to see how it performs.

Crafty..

Thanks for taking an interest....

on track very soon...and of course its going to "Hose" everything it meets on its maiden test day..may even break a lap record or two.....rolleyes...

Only joking ....

Chassis and suspension setup will be very methodical.

We have developed some new components to allow much larger wheel and tire packages to be run with out compromising turning radius, scrub, wheel rates etc etc ...

Also looking at other data acq. systems to supply as a standard and upgrade options...currently have ETB Pro unit fitted and offered as the standard option but I am chatting to Race-Technology also...anyone have any feedback on their system???

Fran, since you were not in attendance here's a few facts: Dean's RCR was working well and he's a great driver.
I had just re-installed the Baer brakes and was dialing in my bias during the session with Dean and prior.
This was my 1st time on a road course with the TT.
1st time with sticky tires as well. Last time on a road course for me was RG 2004.
I was the only car that ran the entire day with the transponder not working, at 4:30pm the times had not been posted for my group. Only when I went to the tower and asked for the times for my group, was I told that my transponder was not working. Despite everyone being told at 7am that a meatball flag would be displayed to those cars who were not being timed. I did not get the flag, all day, others did.
Road Course day 2, Dean's car had a mechanical issue.
The timer quit working on the session following mine, I was told by an organizer the times for my session were safe and were being used for the results.
But those times were never used. Those who saw the times from that session and my Racelogic Vbox know who's car was really quicker.
But, what's the point of any of this?
Dean's and my car were in different classes anyway.
And what was the 1/4 mile time on the RCR at R&G?
And the autocross times?
And what about that Mongoose GTP with the stock LS7?, how much quicker was that one?
Yes, my ignition box did fail during the drag race portion.
I've already lined up a famous Nascar driver to drive my car at R&G next year, 'cause I dont have big enough balls.
Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff..

this is just friendly sparring..

You and Dean sound like you had fun blowing by some of the other guys on the banking...

You and Dean both had shakedown issues and it appears a good time was had by all .....

I dont think Dean did the drag or the autocross as he was an organiser and short on time.

I could not attend due to customer commitments to visit the shop...Boy did I try but business is business and without customers its called a hobby....smile

Well done...

Sorry Couldnt Resist
Hi Joe,

I have been gone for a few days, so here's a late response that I "couldn't resist".

Please correct me if I have mis-spoken. In his class (Prepared), Jeff won the Autocross and Road Course. The Autocross was really close. The road course margin was over 2 seconds.

Can you, Fran, or Dean post why Dean's GT40 was in the "PRO" class. I couldn't find anything in the rules about that class. I guess it could only be a few things; displacement, tires, power adder, or driver perhaps?

No sparring intended...just the facts will do. Okay, maybe a little poke in the ribs. wink However, if I plan on attending, I want to know what equipment will put me into the various classes.

Builder, I think it would be great to see you next year at Run and Gun. Jeff did win his class by a significant margin. He should, he was a much better driver. The numbers that have been posted to variuos forums so far are incomplete. Some of the drag times are missing as well as some of the other competitors. We should have that straightened out soon. It is tough sometimes to find time to do all it takes to run an event like this and work a real job. Jeff's numbers will look even better when the rest of the puzzle is filled in.

The classes are set up just as you discibed. It is all about the tires, type of car and the engine. We could just as easily used A,B,C,D as class names. The spirit of the event is for guys who, in most cases, built their own car in their garage to come out and play on the track in a safe, controlled enviroment. People like to say they run in a "Pro" class. That is about all the thought that goes into it. Based on my cars configuiration, I should have ran in small block Prepared class. I wanted to run with the faster cars and we usually allow cars to move up a class but never down. When I did that, some of the "pro" drivers were upset. That is why I just decided to take my name out of the contest for the trophies. As a coordinator of the event I don't want anyone to think I was racing where I shouldn't be. I really don't care about the trophies or class wins. The times are what they are. That is what counts for me. The rules for 2008 will be posted next month and they will be similar with some small changes.

Best of luck,
Dean

Interesting car. Quite long in the rear - uses a Vette transaxle with shortened tailshaft.

The 63 Grand sport is also cool - would have one of these before a Cobra.
