Buying an M400, what to look for?

As per the subject next week i'm off to look at and test drive a 2004 M400 im interested in buying.

I was just wondering what I should be looking out for?

Any upgrades I should check have been carried out (apart from loom, fuel pump)?

I've been told by Lee Noble that provided the M400 is stock (as it left the factory) the loom and fuel pump are totally up to the job. MV have told me the same. However, Ash will disagree as will some others. In general the loom seems to be the most important change. The motorsport fuel pump upgrade can be noisy. My loom will be done soon as it's out of warranty as Lee also said ANY changes and he would invalidate the warranty!!! Helpful I know! I think the two upgrades are needed more for track work as the speeds and driving you can do on the road don't really push the engine tooooooooo hard

Have a look at the chocolate exhaust bracket, tightness of hoses, signs of fluid leaks. To be honest the sort of things you would look for in any car plus the turbo's, smoking etc.

I'm sure one of the techno folk will be along shortly with a long list

Enjoy the drive, I know you will. I remember my test drive it took weeks for the grin to wear off

That's nice. It's also 100% wrong legally as well.
They/he can't invalidate a warranty simply due to a modification or alteration.

Even if you had a problem or failure related to the area of the modification, the onus is actually upon HIM to prove that your alteration/modification directly caused of contributed to the issue or failure.
All manufacturers try to "strong arm" customers in that fashion though, sometimes simply out of ignorance but they are all usually very bullish in the same way.

Cheers Mike, good to know. However it's due it's first annual service at the end of October so I'll see about getting stuff altered then.
