A6 Avant any owners?
Discussion
Prob cant help with your question as Ive never driven a 2.7 but people Ive talked too reckon the 3.0 tdi is much better. which is the one I bought last year but I didnt keep it very long was too heavy on fuel for me to run.
Ive had both a 3.0tdi and a 2.0tdi A6 and given the choice again would go for the 2.0 everytime, the 3.0 wasnt much quicker (4wd) consumption was hideous around town (25mpg) fortune for road tax ! plus side was a nice smooth drive.
the A6 2.0 tdi manual im using at the mo is nippy and Im not sure any slower than the 3.0 and Ive seen mid 50"s on a run and early 40s round the town.
the cars themselves are built very well , sound system is fantastic, loads of room for passengers, I really liked mine other than the fuel. other comment I would make is the firm ride (s line on 18" rims) and the road noise was high compared to an E60 bmw.

As above really - 2.7 is a waste of time, a 3.0 is hardly any more expensive and much the better engine. 2.0 isn't at all bad either if performance isn't high up on your list of priorities.
If you can, go for an S-line car with full leather and decent wheels. The SE is a bit miserly in comparison and doesn't look that nice.

I have the 3.0 TDI quattro. Found it much more powerful than the 2.7, it pulls very well. Consumption averaging 34mph on a mix of town and rural and motorway.
Quality inside is good, its a nice place to sit, overall build quality sadly lacking in my opinion, but maybe i got a bad one.
Mine has the sports suspension and 19" rims, and ride is hard but handling good.

We have a 2.0tdi SE Avant here which has now done 5Kmiles. The car is V well made IMO and does most what is asked of it. Its not a 'sporty' press on car and it feels its weight. That said I had it for a long W/E and did a few miles in it and got on well enough with it.
I have driven the 3.0tdi S-line which I thought was much quicker but given the size of the car I'd be just as happy to save X amount and plump for a 2.0tdi given the choice.
Re the 2.7 I have seen some owners say that the Quattro is a must so you might have found a good set up.

I have a facelifted older 52 plate 1.8T A6 avant which has been remapped, the smaller bore turbos tend to respond really well to remapping. I hear the 2.0tdi lump can hit 200bhp without much effort, but i have also been in a remapped 3.0tdiQ which felt properly quick.
As a family car its rock solid, had it for 3 years, ticks all the boxes, only thing i would change it for would be a Q and a healthy TDi lump or possibly a V8. Added 50k onto the clock and its up at 110k, don't feel any real need to change it as it does nothing wrong. Did eat a turbo a few months ago, (clogged oil feeder hoses, recall i believe), the earlier cars ran K03 turbos the later K04's are a much stronger unit, common upgrade for tuning or S4 2.7tt owners. Remap also gives better economy (hugely increased after remap on runs) get 5-6mpg more on runs 36-38. General average is about 34mpg. Interior still looks brand new even with the miles and wear from 2 kids, wife and a dog, wears the miles very well. If anything the wife finds it a bit of an arse to park in multistory's just with the shear footprint, parking sensors would be a must for the next one.
engine wise on the new ones i would go for a 2.0tdi if i wanted economy and a 3.0tdi Q for performance. oh choices!

I have a Superchip upgrade in the BMW (only 15bhp on top of 230 but still noticeable) and a Bluefin (also Supechips IIRC) in the Mini Cooper which put 15 on top of the 115 and is definitely noticeable.
Turbo applications are far more effective.
What's with TVR owners suddenly looking to buy Audis then?

See a veterinary hypnotist, best of both worlds

.I've had to buy these ultrasonic (or whatever) sounders, which seem to work.

trade in is £25,275 top retail is £27,225 ,values inc leather/nav desireable met paint. figures taken from this months glass"s guide. I sold the last 3.0 tdi S line I had for £24k but had done higher mileage but was between the trade/retail in relation to glass"s value, also got 2.0 tdi for sale at mo that is around trade price.
If you are happy with the deal though a few extra quid over the next few years is neither here nor there.
