Before you all start abusing, I have been fan of TVRs since Martin's days but Ginetta always been my number one. The sad departure of TVR means someone can take part of that gap.

Hows this take your fancy?
Spotted is the new G50 out at Croft, naturally a track car but will be done as a road car too.

Nice eh?

Looks like the designer spent a bit of time looking at a Viper, but got the scale wrong.

Been asking myself the same question. Marcos was my main contender, BUT it just ain't a TVR!

Ginetta? No sorry doesn’t do it for me.

Viper now there's a tool and a half, but it's a left hooker!

I like most Ginettas, although some look a bit too kitcar-ish. That one is O.K but doesn't look 'special' enough. It resembles an RX7 to me with some Viper and Corvette in there too. When you see a TVR you can't really say they resemble anything else on the road - they follow their own design formulae.
And (more importantly) how does it drive?
Whereabouts are they made now?

The Problem is this looks abit like a Viper, Corvette with a little bit of Ferrari 575, which is not a bad thing.
But a TVR always looked like nothing else!
The Marcos is probably the closest to a TVR replacement at the moment, but not quite. And the Wiessmann is just too retro and expensive.

I know Im not an owner, but a life long enthusiast so I feel that I should air my views biggrin

There are many cars out there that are superior in design & engineering

There are many faster cars out there

There are many cars that are more reliable

But

They're not a TVR

I love the Weisman but it is very very expensive for what it is, even if it is stunning

I can see the appeal of the Marcos too, it sounds right, goes well, looks half decents....but something just doesnt click with me

Ive always appreciated the Lotus-esque ethos behind Ginetta and really do like their range of cars from old to new, but the looks of the G50 arent particularly appealing as it looks out of proportion

Loti are a fantastic machine, but missing a few cylinders hehe

Theres a boat load of cars I would love to own and experience, but I would always go back to TVR

I've been a fan of Ginetta's for years and have owned two. I'm a big fan of Laurence Tomlinson and feel that the's the best thing that's happened to Ginetta since the Walkletts. But I'm sorry to say this one doesn't do it for me. Good try, though, and I wish Ginetta the best of luck with it.

I don't know the price and I think it would be critical in deciding whether it is a success or not. If it was cheap enough they could have a queue.

ginnetas ok as a track day car ,but in no way a substitute for a tvr.lacking in cylinders and not enough grunt for long distance blasts, thing i like most about tvr as got nothing to do with out right bhp,its the tremendous toruqe they have ,something ginnetas ,many lotus and several kit cars are lacking, alot may handle better ,brake better etc ,but they missing the ass kicking torque, and its toruqe that will throuigh you forward around a track.

I had a G32 up until a year or so ago. It was a lovely car and, through the back roads and by-ways, it would match a 4.5 RV8 engined TVR. Once there was any straight worth the name then it would lose out of course.

I was going to keep both cars, the G32 for day-to-day driving, and the TVR for longer distances but in the end the G32 was hardly used. Shame as it was great fun to drive.

No grunt?
What about a G33?

I'll just fire it up. (click link)

http://www.btinternet.com/~p.j.willis/g33/start1.m...

Anyway, who needs grunt?

How about 1963 example of the dinky pale blue Ginetta G4 (only 1.6 litre!!) here as it lines up at Goodwood Revival earlier this month, hardly a shakedown, it got 9th on grid out of about 30 cars.
Alongside it and in front on grid are all 3-3.5 litre Ferraris, 2 TVR Griffiths, Marcos's, all with litres of grunt.

End of first lap G4 was 3rd, in front of yellow Griffith (eventual winner).
Not bad, eh?

Oops, forgot to add, in case you start wondering ... it finished 5th.
Ferrari driver No 14 accused G4 of aggressive driving allegedly...biggrin

That's an old 63 Ginetta G4, but how about a modern G4? Yes, it's still built by the Walkletts, but like TVR get the awful undeserved publicity about breaking down, the G4 gets little publicity.
Built by DARE the modern G4 proves itself. On the track with Mark Walklett at the wheel the Dare G4 has trounced grids of Porsche TVR Elises (ha ha) Morgan+8, Marcos the lot.
Trouble is not many know. As a road car it's sound is as good as a mighty TVR.

Check this short video and you'll see what it's like (both options, open and closed cars). Watch how Mark Walklett just leaves the opposition on the circuit. He won some races by in excess of TWENTY secs!!
End of vid driver is G4 designer Ivor Walklett and next to him Mark Walklett.

Ginetta would have to build another roadster and make it go like the wind, only way it would work in my opinion. If they made a smallish car which was just 'rapid' and good on the twisties then there are far too many kit cars that could do they same thing, lightweight, fast, relatively cheap. They need to do a good job and make a beefy car with a few more luxuries on board.

Making a car somewhere between a finished kitcar and a GT car ain't going too work IMO. They need to up their game and stick their neck out a bit and i'm sure they could turn out a fantastic car.

Ginettas have always looked like Ginettas like TVRs have always looked like TVRs, they either have to stick with their more 'classic' look or move away and design something completely different and forget about history.

Hope the new car makes it and I think it looks good side on (haven't seen other pictures yet) but no sky views in the summer !!

Wandering a bit but having just gotten back from the Frankfurt motor show the only thing I would have swapped my TVR for is .....

http://www.artega.de/index.php?a=4

Very well built, though uses lots of VW/Audi parts. Ticks the individual, quick(ish), and good looks that most people look for in a TVR. Retails in Germany for £50,000 with a service network planned throughout Europe. First deliveries middle of next year.

Looks a bit like the illegitimate love-child of a threesome between a Ferrari 360, Aston Martin and Hyundai Coupe.

does any marque really take the place of any other?
not sure they do.
people have there fav`s and i think they always will, there will be new ones along the way.. and people will love them.
but people will always be different(hopefully)in what they want in a car, need in a car.

why the need to replace?
why not enjoy the massive choice we all have, i think there is a good choice if you take your time to look around,

Stunning in the flesh(?) and has a lot of Aston about it, though not much Hyundai. Just stood out from the crowd as I guess a T350 or Sagaris would if they'd been there. Hence thinking of it as a potential replacement, personally if not for TVR.......
