on driven ( does anyone watch any more?!)

they reviewed the audi 3.0 quattro, a bmw 330 and jag but they said the top speeds were 115 mph, surely not! does anyone know the more likely figure?

i think they quoted the jag at 155mph. But you're right that they did quote 115 for either the BMW or the Audi (can't remember which) - can't be right.

Knowing Drivel they prob. tested one of them with a roofbox, towing a caravan, with the boot full of jelly.
115mph is, of course, bollocks.
X-type 3.0 Sport 146mph 0-60 7.5secs
A4 151mph 0-60 6.7secs
C320 150mph 0-60 7.1secs
330i 155mph 0-60 5.9secs
Figures from Evo. Don't believe the last one though, unless the BM's got gearbox ratios chosen for 0-60 run ? Same power and torque as X-type and X-type has 4WD...
Did the Beemer win ? I'd drifted off by that point.
Can't believe they thought the Beemer was the most desirable. That's what you get for asking estate agents. (currently having small war with (deleted-scumbags'll prob. sue (but it rhymes with "sore prove")) of Nottingham . No offence to any other EAs out there)

thanks for the info, I couldnt track it down, yes the Beemer won.
the jag lost points on jason plato not able to keep up in a touring car race, suspension to soft. and the audi wasnt the favorite among the ressurgence of yuppies on londons 10mph roads.

For fu*k$ sake. The Jag's never going to keep up with the Beemer in much the same way as a Rover 75's not going to keep up with my Bora V6. Not because the 75's a worse car, it's just a motorway cruiser not a backroad blast. Neither the Jag nor the BM is aiming to be all things to all men, the Audi tries that and comes out numb.

Jaydee,

Isn't 155 the electonically limited top speed of the 330i?

Yes, there's supposedly a gentlemans' agreement between the German manufacturers to limit to 155mph. Still can't comprehend why it's so much quicker than the X-type ?

Quicker 0-60 and higher top speed=big gap in the ratios somewhere? Odd.

Does it have a six speed box? They have plenty knocking around for the BMW 3 series.

That said, 5.9 is believable 0-60 - the old 328i could do 6.5 or sommat with 200 odd bhp. They never feel that quick though, cos the engine's so smooth and linear. I remember being underwhelmed by E36 M3 Evolution - 321 bhp felt more like 231! And that was 5.2/5.4 0-60. Still run out of puff at 140 mph though - that last 15mph to the limiter took another mile or three to get anywhere near. My Lotus Carlton walks it.
