Forgive me if this question has already been dealt with on the site. I've had a look around and can't seem to find it discussed anywhere.

Out of whose parts bin do the electric window motors come from?

Mine are v e r y s l o w and I'd like to swap them for something speedier (I have an early model S3).

Yep, mine are S l o w too. Try taking the door card off and lubricating all the moving parts and runners first.

Mine are very slow to the point that the passenger one has to be manually helped!
I have had both door cards off and lubricated runners etc but they are not much better

My next step was to change the motors, but need to know where to source them????

Glad it's not just me then.

Disconnect the wire from the window motor and measure the voltage whilst operating the window switch...I measured a meagre 9. something volts...clean all the connections you can find especially the spade connectors...that may help.

I suspect it's a shitty connection problem...well it was with mine...scratchchin

Hi guys,
Im new to this forum, although i have been reading it for more than a year now.
And thanks for all the good things i have learned here already.
This time i have something to contribute.
Proud to present that i have solved the mistery of the slow window motors in my V8S.
Its not the lubrication, or alligning, or the motors. Its in the wiring.
Remember how your voltagemeter in the dashboard goes a little down when you switch on the blower for example?
As soon as current is needed, the voltage goes down.
I measured voltage as low as 8 volts on the switch of the windows, when the motors were opereated.
You can easily try if this is also the case in your car by removing the doorcover and applying 12 volt (through a seperate thick cable) directly to the windowmotor. Use the connector nearest to the motor for this.
You will see that the motor runs faster and stronger than ever before. Just as it should.
I have considered replacing all wiring or applying an extra relay near the motors.
I now have installed a separate cable from the battery in the back to the windowswitches in the console.
This replaces the original powersupply to the switches. Used a cable of about 3 mm diameter.
Although the wiring from the switches to the motors is still original (and too thin) this workes perfectly for my car.
The windows run as they should.
As probably every TVR has this same problem, go on and try this.
It is not much work to make you proud of your TVR windowmotors again.
Good luck,
Ronc

Great advice I would never had believed it to be the wiring!
Re-cabling sounds like a lot of messing around, but I suppose it would be worth it.
I take it as the motors aren't drawing any current, a direct feed would not drain the battery?

No, it will not use the battery unless a motor is activated.
Actually this is already the case in the normal car; the windows can be operated without the contactkey.
Changing the complete wiring would indeed be quite a job. That is why i was satisfied to find out that it is enough to make only one new lead from the battery to the windowswitches in the console.
