Have always wondered exactly how much my Dare G4 weighs..
Some quote the Dare G4 as 570 kg-- such as on brook-kensington website and some Japanese ones
Dare site however says 670kg

So to find out for sure i took my G4 coupe to the local weigh-bridge today..
with a 1/4 tank of petrol it came in at exactly 670Kg...

Surprising to think the original (60s)round-tube car is quoted as being only around 450kgs...!

But I would say that you have a bigger engine and gear box.

How do you go about getting a car weighed? I'm intrigued to find out what my 205 GTi track car comes in at now it's been heavily stripped out.

Find a local publc weigh bridge on t'interweb - ring them, turn up, pay the £5 or whatever and get a slip. Like a RR day, but less fun wink

So if a G4 weighs 670Kg how comes a G33 weighs about 860 odd Kgs ?? Thats another third more ?? Seems quite a lot for a 'similar' sized car. The RV8 can't weigh much more than an iron block Ford engine.

If you put the G33 next to a G4 it is quite a bit bigger. I t probably has moor steel in the chassis, but otherise it is quite difficult to explain and is proabablythe sum of lots of little things, like bigger tyres, bigger wheels, carpets, maybe a heavier glassfibre layup etc I think a trip to a weighbridge is in order.

The better comparison would be a G4 to a G27 or G20... The G33 has a V8 lump in it as standard and is a lot bigger, with a "proper" expandable roof built-in.

The V8 is all aluminium though, i guess the G4 engine is iron?

I was wondering about the fabrication of the engines.. I think you're right, although I don't think the Rover lump was all aly...

I thought the Zetec unit is all Ali?
What about gearboxes? They have a fair old whack of mass themselves?
Diffs?
Batteries - a V8 needs more to turn over than a IL4.

Hi,

My zetec powered G27 weight is 730KG with a full tank, complete weather gear, and tools in the boot.

And visually it is bigger than a G4.

Zetec is defibately ferrous block.

If you want weigh a car then all race circuits will have a weighbridge in/ near the scrutineering bay. The Mallory one has very easy acces from the paddock.

AFAIK the Zetec-E blocks are ferrous as ^^ said. The Zetec-SE (Sigma) blocks are ally IIRC.
