Front hub carriers

I thought that the front hub carriers were a TVR special.
I've just invested a quid in a sierra manual for the chapter on brakes, there's no question in my mind that the front hub carriers are sierra, the metal part where the top balljoint attaches is clamped into the top of the hub carrier where the bottom of the mcpherson strut goes on the sierra.

You're all going to tell me you knew this aren't you ?

If you didn't know this I'd say its good news - if you want to do a big brake upgrade you have to drill the front hub carriers to take the calipers - at least if you have a disaster its not the end of the world - you could replace the hub carrier easily.

If you're after a serious brake upgrade then rather than redrilling the uprights I'd suggest using adapter plates.

If you drill the hubs out to 13mm you can bolt Granny Cosworth front calipers on with their carrier plates, no problem (I did). I can't see why you would want to take them off and go back to the Sierra ones. they are crap and unbalenced with the Cossie rears anyway. These are the biggest you can fit with the 15" wheels. If you are planning on going much bigger then perhaps go down the route GreenV8 suggests and buy adapter plates.

When I looked into it the adapter plates cost more than a set of nearly new Cossie calipers, pads and disks from ebay, and you were still left with the puny Sierra calipers.
