Yep. smile
I used to used the original combined with a catch tank, changed to the noblemods one.
Does what it says on the can!
Easy to fit, works, reasonable cost. Job done.

I was going to do the Pro-alloy intercooler upgrade so I am tempted to get them to make me a nice shiney breather tank as well.

Alex S: Do you have your old one for a pattern if I need it (rather than strip my car down and my wife go nuts!)? If I can send them a tank for costing/size purposes prior to my visit then they can do it all together.

I have just ordered the Pro Alloy intercooler plus expansion tank, and i'm waiting for a quote for various hard pipes and an oil breather thingy! Maybe if they do more it will be cheaper? I will call Wayne and ask him!

If we can get a group buy that would be good. I'm up for that.

John noble motorsport have just fitted a steel restrictor to my m400, this prevents the slightly pressurized sump(due to forged pistons apparently) pushing oil up past the oil catcher into the bov and even the intercooler when playing a bit harder on track! Is this not doing the same job as an oil breather?? Or have I missed the point?

I have the same on mine - makes a huge difference compared to not having the restrictor and will be fine for 99.9% of owners for road and track. If you're a serious racer then catch tank and breather are better.
Didn't cost me a penny.

Rob,
Didn’t cost me either, peter@ noble motorsport just disappeared for a couple of minutes, knocked one out on their lathe while the guys were dynoing the car!

Pleased to hear such a simple thing can solve the problem, hoping to try the car again on track soon

Yak

Ps did you manage to get your turbo sorted?

There is a problem if you do this, It will cope with light mist, however heavy mist or oil from crankcase compression (valve/broken ring/) will still get fed into the intake, the risk with a turbo engine is quite high.

Adrian,

Not quite sure what you mean?

The problem I had manifested itself as a light spay of oil through the blow off valve , there was a small amount of oil in this pipe and a very small trace of oil in the bov end of the intercooler connection .but none in the intercooler or pipe the other end. This only occurred when pushing the engine quite hard in the upper rev ranges on track.

Noble instruct the service providers in this case john noble motorsport to fit a restrictor which reduces the amount of oil that can be pushed up past the oil catcher, and so doesn’t become overwhelmed.
Understand the problem is most prevalent with 400 as the forged pistons allow the sump to be slightly pressurized!!
Is the above your understanding of the problem? What else can one do to alleviate the situation ??

Thanks

yak

My point is that if something goes wrong you can still blow oil into the inlet and if your lucky take out the turbo, and if your unlucky hydrolic the engine. The only totaly reliable way to avoid this is not to breath back into the inlet system.

Hi Yak - yep, front turbo was very poorly at Donington but was reconditioned (by Turbo Technics) and car seemed to be back up to full working fettle. However, I had 2 days at Spa late August and basically front turbo fried the surrounding electrics. NobleLondon have sorted this for me now and the car will be back tomorrow smile Need to find out why the turbo was getting so hot....
