Newbie Noble Buyer...what should i look for??

Hey Guys,

Well firstly what a wicked place this forum is and i cant wait to get more involved in Noble life once i get mine...fingers crossed!

So i thought i should seek a little advise before i go shopping....is there anything i should steer well clear of, should it be a private purchase of a dealer, 5 speed or a later 6 speed gearbox version...the list kinda goes on!

I confess to have been looking around already in the press and online at a few dealers. My closest is mole valley and it seems they have a good selection of cars....but are the over priced? They have four on their site at the moment rangeing from 39k-42k all of which are within my price bracket.

Basically any advise would be helpfull also i would like to to use the car as my every day vehicle.....is this practicle or not?

plenty of info on here mate if you use the search key, also i think there is a buyers guide on the wiki stiky thing at the top of the page.

i personally think 39-42 is a bit over the top, i know it is from a main dealer but still think you could find a good car for a lot less.

in my view, (flack jacket goin on now) a GTO 3.0 should set you back up to 29 maybe 30 if its well sorted. a GTO 3R should be achievable for 30 to 35.

be prepared to wait and look at a lot of cars and you will find what you want.

i personally think 6 speed and lsd are a must so look for a GTO3.0 that has had these added or a 3R

Personally i would look for maybe a dealerless car and try to get an aftermarket warranty.
What mileage you aiming for every year? If its low mileage then you dont need to worry about higher mileage cars and have more of a market.
Mine is up for sale now at a negotiable 33k, and i have seen a nice tuned champagne coloured one (not my fave colour tho) on PH classifieds too now for 34-35k both of which would leave you with cash in your back pocket for fun things like trackdays, maybe styling enhancements like alys or as a slush fund for when things go wrong.

A summary of the preferred specs, advisable upgrades and modifications worth considering - all IMO of course…

2.5
• ECU Upgrade (original Magneti Marelli unit had a high failure rate)
• Radiator Cowling & Fan Upgrade (because of overheating problems)
• Limited Slip Diff - Quaife ATB (standard open diff can fail on sudden load)
• 6 Speed Gearbox (or 5 speed with Quaife LSD fitted as it can fail without)
• Track Sump (a must if going to be tracked)
• Fuel Loom Wiring Upgrade (existing wiring’s too thin so engine runs lean under load)
• M400 Fuel Pump Fitted (recommended as existing pump said to be marginal)

3.0 & 3R (later 3Rs had some of these items fitted as standard)

• Have the car re-mapped (by Roush) - particularly the M400

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all those of you that have replied via the forum or sent me emails so far. I have found all the advice really helpfull.....if anyone can think of anything else then by all means let me know....its a massive lerning curve for me at the moment whilst i am on the hunt for my perfect car!

Mark, I sometimes stay in the Witterings and bring the Noble down (on fair days!). You're welcome to an inspection and Q&A sometime should our diaries lineup. I also try to attend the Goodwood Brekkie Club meets - the final 2007 one one being on Sunday 7th October. Also look out for Tonyvan who is local to you and drives a Blue Noble.
