I have read various posts stating that you only benefit from higher octane petrol if your car has a knock sensor. How would I find out if I have one.
(The cars a Peugeot 306 GTI6). Cheers.

The easiest way is to look in tha owners maual in the section about what type of fuel you should use. It'll mention it in there.

I was wondering if my rover can take Optimax...

Various section of the manual appear to contradict each other. I've now bought the haynes manual, so I'll see what it says in there tonight...

You might be able to tell by looking - it'll be a small sensor with a couple of wires screwed in to the side of the block (should be half way along and up near the head)

You could always call your dealer's parts department and ask for a new knock sensor for your car.

If they start laughing then you haven't got one...

Gti 6 you say? Thats the 6 speed box one , if memory serves.
The knock sensor should be fitted at the back of the block and is a round black object bolted through its centre into the engine block, with a terminal clipped onto it.
Its about 50p sized and about 1/2 thick.
