Not that I'm a g33k or anything whistle but it would seem that somebody isn't monitoring their maintenance jobs on the database. School boy error.

Right - back to car chat.

Shhhh........ they are all volunteers you know. rolleyes Makes me laugh though - threads appear on there crowing because some members had difficulty getting onto PH the other week and then the whole TVRCC forum is down for hours on end and nobody apparently notices, least of all those who look after the site. laugh

It probably shut down because Paul Gotts has decided to give up posting.

Well I noticed, I just didn't care. Plenty of other forums with more activity. To be honest you could easily go for hours without any new posts on the TVRCC forums so what would it matter paperbag

I concur Bob. Makes you wonder why any members cash is expended on it at all though...

I didn't realise he was that influential - they'll just have to find someone else to raise the challenging questions.

As stated elsewhere, being an RO doesn't mean we're not allowed an opinion. Only a few months ago the Club committee were considering increasing the annual subscription so that they could add functionality to the forum. Thankfully many members including RO's suggested this would be inappropriate because a considerable majority of members didn't access the forum area. That was a negative opinion but it resulted in the right decision.

I think we can all agree that when we need a quick answer to a TVR related question we ask it on PH, there is simply no point in asking on the TVRCC forum unless you are able to wait a few days for a couple of responses. On PH you'll likely get an answer within 15 minutes and your confidence in that answer will increase as many other members give their answers too.

There is a lot of frustration among the TVRCC committee regarding this issue. There are plans to actively promote the Club forums. I am a firm believer in market based management. Don't promote something bad because the people who respond will walk away disappointed. You permanently need to work to hold on to them. Market based management says if you need to increase your market share you must offer something better than your competition. That way they stay because they want to and they actively promote for you. Forcing people in or increasing subscriptions are short term strategies. Only when people use the forum because they prefer it will you see sustained growth.

Nicely said Bob..

Some in the TVR CC have always had a thing in their bonnets about PH .. but sadly for they they missed the boat by several years - Ted say an opertunerty an made a good business out of it.

PH is here - deal with it.

The TVR CC site has been vastly improved but I for one would not want an increased subscription of pay for more improvements .. as it may possibly always be a sleepy back water.

Rant starts

The major problem is one the Club caused itself. Forum access standard options are Open to all, Open read-only to all or Open only to paying members. In my opinion 'Open read-only to all' is a wonderful way to demonstrate what members will be able to contribute to and gives opportunity for non-members to see another benefit of membership. I would think that the vast majority of PHers were lurkers first. In other words human behaviour causes people, including members, to ignore the TVRCC forums. Show them what's on offer and more owners will join.

Can you imagine being in a supermarket and seeing a plain white box with no writing on it sitting on a shelf that is labelled 'food'. You have no idea whether it's a cream cake or lamb chops or something in between. Neither do you see an image to show the quality of the product. That is how I see the TVRCC website let alone the Club forum. PH on the other hand is a very well presented box with an accurate description and it's free of charge. These two websites are not comparable yet the Club committee are trying to persuade RO's to stop posting event info on PH. Great idea, I look after 100+ members and to my knowledge only a handful read the Club forums and then maybe one quick visit per day. This is easily verified because the Club forum threads have a view counter. I post event info on the Club forum and by the time of the event the count is between 2 & 8, some of which will be forum moderators and adjoining region RO's. It's interesting therefore when 25 people turn up to the event. The only reason this happens is because I post the events on the PH region as well. Am I going stop posting event info on PH, no way, what's the point of intentionally hiding event info from the majority of members.
