Which sound system?

Apart from the joyous sound of the exhaust, my S3 needs a new stereo and speaker system as its current system is barely audiable and dated. Not wanting to spend a huge amount but obviously want something decent.

What have you guys got in your cars, any recommendations?

I bought it mainly for the front auxiliary input, so I can listen to the iPod through it. Mine has got green illumination (rather than red) which matches the rest of the dash better.

I never, ever listen to it though!

I'v got a blaupunkt radio cassette that was in the car when I got it.
It doesn't work, and to make sure it's safe I've disconnected all the wiring.
I haven't felt the need to get it working yet !

The interior of mine isn't exactly a nice colour - black & dirty grey colour. I'd like to have it all replaced in black with a red trim and the wood effect crap changed for brushed chrome type effect.

Doubt I'll listen to the sound system very much, just helps with travel bulletins when driving back from my partners place in the mornings to work

At last - someone with taste. I never understood why they bothered with the wood bits because they seemed out of place in the S.

Regards the ICE - it might be worth checking out the speakers first. Mine were some awful paper coned Pioneer (IIRC) units and were useless. Fitted some Kenwood KFC 1360S 13cm units and the sound was much better. Find some with a higher sensitivity (greater than 91db if poss) and they'll be louder for the same input wattage. The alternative is to fit a meaty head unit or external amp. Also watch out for the mounting depth of the speakers. The Kenwood ones I fitted were 45mm deep and didn't obstruct the window mechanism.

Thinking about it, I listened to the radio on the way back from collecting the car and again after fitting the speakers. Since then I've not bothered with it.

I like the wood - but then my dash has been recovered in a very nice bit or proper walnut. Maybe its my age.

There was a thread on here ages ago about speakers and a couple of S owners had fitted these. I took the recommendation (maybe from you, Jed?) and got some. They match the car and sound pretty good.

Don't get me started on the wood...

Thats the next job on the to-do list. Stainless steel and louder the better.
